NHL 2011/2012 Season

Indeed. It seems clear he'd like out. Nine years toiling for a franchise that's been a bottomfeeder with no real progress will do that to a player. However the Columbus GM didn't do himself any favours by telling the media Nash approached them about a trade (even though it is completely understandable).

Columbus may not get as much as they want for him now. And if the price does come down, and his list of teams he'll take a trade to don't change, then I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Leafs jersey. Along with a true first line centre and a veteran in goal.

Jets are still hanging in there for a playoff spot, and we won one of the games we needed to by demolishing Florida yesterday 7-0. :techman:

Pretty good game, also featured this awesome 5-on-1 play:

I've never seen a 5 on 1 in Hockey before and the Jets executed that about as perfectly as I would think you would.

I'm hoping the Jets do make the playoffs. It'd be nice for Winnipeg getting their team back and making the playoffs the first season back. They won't go on a deep run but still.

And in other news... The Leafs FINALLY fired Wilson.

Too late to save the season but at least it's been done.

I'm pretty sure I saw it here:

It's nice to finally say good bye to Wilson. The players had stopped playing for him and as much as I preach the coach should not go before players, if Carlyle can light a fire under them I'm all for it.

I Believe the Leafs are still on the hook for that contract extension Burke just got him (Wilson), so I would think Burke is next along with Dave Nonuts.

Some say that Wilson's extension was gift from Burke (after all he and Wilson have been friends since college).

I don't think Carlyle is the right man for the job. Serious is fine but word is he's something of a tyrant and it's well known he and Lupul didn't get along in Anaheim.

I'd have preferred an interim coach to finish the season and possibly bringing up Eakins from the Marlies next season. Young coach, young team. I'd also have preferred Marc Crawford to Carlyle.

I agree with Burke's rationale about not bringing Eakins in right now. How would you love your first coaching job to be in the hot stove that is Toronto (media, fans, etc.)

Carlyle is what we need right now. His feud with Lupul is apparently "water under the bridge" (though the Toronto media will undoubtedly try to bring it up again and again)

Well, Carlyle admitted to making a mistake with Lupul in Anaheim so it seems (hopefully) that any bad blood between them is gone. He also spoke about it being a coach's job to motivate players so so far he's saying all the right things. And through two periods so far the team does seem to be playing better.

Any slight chance the Leafs had of squeaking into the playoffs ended with the announcement today that Lupul is out for 3-4 weeks with a separated shoulder. I feel for the guy. In the top 10 in NHL scoring, just over a point per game this season and playoffs or not, this was a great year for him.

Looks like Winnipeg is the team I'll be pulling for now.

And I found it interesting that there was so much in the media about the iron-fisted tyrant, Carlyle. From what I saw of him he was positive, smiling, communicating with his players. So he wants his guys to practice hard and stay in shape. That's not bad and unless there's something we haven't seen yet, he could very well be a great coach for this team.

Well shit as much as I hate the Leafs I had him in my pool :scream:

Ye of little faith. As tough as it is, it isn't over until it's over.

Carlyle is a communicator, especially where Wilson was not. It's a welcome change.

I laughed the day last week when it was announced the Rangers had dropped him from their roster and their farm club told him not to bother showing up for practices any more.

You know you're not wanted when even the AHL team in your organisation tells you to take a hike. :)

His agent said he isn't retiring and is keeping his options open. I'll laugh even more if the clown can't even get a job in the KHL next season.
