Propose new aliens

Gaius

Most of the aliens shown in Star Trek look like humans with weird facial bones or other features that could be conveniently added by a make-up artist from the 60s. Think of Vulkans, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Denobulans, Ferengi, etc.

What kind of aliens should the next series include that would capitalize on the FX / CGI capabilities of the 21st century and make us believe that they are indeed not human actors wearing a complicated make-up?

Meter-long space roaches that seek out new worlds to infest by the trillions each. They devour the indigenous populations and then move on to the next world. No reasoning with them, not even much communication. Kill them or be killed by them.

Every new alien race is going to sound like something from somewhere else if you look hard enough.

^ True dat.

How about the Furies from that Invasion crossover? Those seemed fairly freaky.

Especially the one alien who, according to one of the novels, was rendered via the Universal Translator as having a voice that sounded like "a moose from Texas".

I kind of recall similar fear-inducing aliens have appeared in Doctor Who over the years. One even infected a tribal race that used voodoo dolls like the Furies did.

I'm fine with bumpy forehead aliens and the occassional lizard/insect type alien like the Xindi. The bumpy forehead alien is what Trek does and it makes it feel like Trek. I don't want the crew to be bumping into absurd looking monsters all the time or it would end up looking as stupid as Dr Who.

1. 10 foot Rodents

2. Amphibian aliens. They'd require a vat in their quarters for their kids...

How about edible aliens where they eat pieces of each other that grow back and expect the visiting starfleet folks to do the same, otherwise it's a terrible social faux pas.

^ That's a cool idea. I like it!

I don't suppose the aliens would settle for only snacking on someone's nicely-styled hairdo, would they?

An old 1980's cartoon, "The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin" featured a zoo with odd creatures, and one of them was this purple blob with a face and the owner said, "Sometimes it gets so hungry, it will eat itself" and we saw the mouth open and a red version of the blob was coming out and engulfing its purple self and was all yellow.

And someone asked, "Don't it get tired of eating the same thing?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4RD0BmPSSk at the 13 minute mark. :D

Sounds like something you suggested. :techman:
