Help me find an obscure tv show.

When I was 17 or so, late at night there was a show on FOX late at night on a sunday. It was presented like a Unsolved Mysteries kinda remake kinda fake, presenation of a familly who lived on a farm and aliens landed. All weird things happened and a couple of guys ventured out to the aliens ship and were spying on them. They aliens saw them and phasered them, not kiling but really burning him. Everybody ran back to the house and were screaming and it all went dark as the aliens came in.

This scared the hell out of me watching it in bed at midnight, and I really want to see it again, but have no idea where to even start looking. Did FOX used to have a show that would do these kind of things? I seem to remember Jonathan Frakes at one point had a paranormal\alien type show.

Any help would be appreciated.

It might help to narrow it down if you tell us how old you are now. Then we could work out the likely date the show was broadcast.
