Short-Haired Women are Sexy

Each of us is drawn to various things. I happen to a soft spot (or hard spot, depending on the mood) for women with short hair. Short hair could be anything from Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares" video--yes, that is TOTALLY HOT!--to Nicole Kidman a la "Billy Bathgate".

"Billy Bathgate" is a highly underrated, underappreciated flick, by the way. If you've never seen it, do so right now and then come back and ThankMe.

Anyway, what traits, be they physical or personalical, do you find particularly attractive? Name anything you like as long as it is outside the societal mainstream?

I'm not asking for your bedroom kinks, just the unusual things that happen to catch your eye.

Not really that unconventional, but I like tall, lanky, long-limbed women.

And I find women with a slight overbite and large front teeth very sexy looking. (Speaking of which, has anyone noticed how much Naomi Watts and Natasha Bedingfield look like each other?)

A great voice. I don't really care what someone looks like, if he has a great voice and a modicum of intelligence. I'd trample over every vanilla-cookie-cutter-pretty boy in Hollywood if Alan Rickman so much as winked at me. I'm far more turned on by Ian McShane than Brad Pitt. As a little kid, I was the only girl in my class who didn't swoon over Marc Singer in V; frankly, I wanted Michael Ironside. In the '90s, my friends loved Jerry O'Connell on Sliders, but I had a crush on the Professor, John Rhys-Davies. Be smart, have a good voice, and I'm all yours.

Intellect. Also, a wicked sense of humor. The intelligence and wit of one person will do more to get my attention than a thousand pretty, handsome faces.

Well, the non-physical things about my boyfriend that are most attractive to me would sense of humor, and intelligence. He's a complete geek in every way. Adorable.<3

Physically... he is tall. Thin. And he has nice brown eyes. A great smile. Reeeally hairy arms and legs. And I love it when he doesn't shave for a few days. That's hot.

I can't really tell you what I find attractive in general about men, because I don't really bother to notice them. I don't really look at random people. The physical stuff doesn't matter. What I've just described about the man I love... well, he could be the complete opposite in every way and I would have listed those things here too, because I love him and whatever qualities he has would be attractive to me.

Looks was the last thing that mattered to me when I met my wife...then again we met online. She's the polar opposite of my personality in nearly every way: politics, religion, you name it. She'll argue or debate me on damn near anything: be it cause she believes she's right or just to get my goat and a rile me up. The main thing we have in common is Trek (lol). But we work. Married 10 years, known each other for 16 years. She has a knack for driving me batshit crazy with annoyance and making me love all the more for it, has from day one.

It's the confidence that does it...in regard to short hair, I think. Or at least that's part of it; I feel sexier with short hair, and I think that's because I associate long hair with hiding and short hair with confidence and independence. It's not the same for all women, of course, but I think these associations are fairly common (why young women often crop their hair after going off to university or why ladies cut it all off after a breakup). Maybe that's partly what draws you to us short haired gals?

For me, I really can't think of anything in particular, although I know I've always had the tendency to be attracted to other than the traditionally handsome man. My roommate, and I, for example have completely different tastes in men's looks, with her going for the All-American boy, and me...the odd-looking, or too thin, or too chubby, I don't know. I certainly don't have a specific type: I'm attracted to dudes from all over the spectrum, really. Talent, intelligence, and personality are what grab me, and (I know it's cliched) humor.

I do have quite a big thing for hands, though. Men with long fingers...not feminine, but long and thin: pianist's hands. Good hands are more attractive to me than a great ass or a stunning smile or a 9 inch penis.

Oh, and British accents. I swoon for that shit.

I answered this all wrong...

What I find beautiful, honesty.
What I find wonderful, love.
What I find sexy, trust.

As for what I like other people might find odd outside the mainstream...who cares. :bolian:

I'm not sure you can classify women with short hair as "outside the societal mainstream", except if we are talking Marine buzzcuts. But I get what you mean.

For me, I like an important nose in a woman. It doesn't mean necessarily big, but a nose with character. Quote Farscape's Claudia Black for reference.

Another feature I like in a woman are broad, athletic shoulders. Not big-muscled, but well-defined. Track field athletes, for example.

In general terms, I like a woman who can kick my ass, and looks the part.

So if I were to ever visit your home and saw the place trashed all to hell, with the two of you standing there, panting in the doorway, it would mean that you:

A] had been in a life or death struggle with some kind of angry, Italian badgers and had won, at the cost of your own souls, and a designer leather sofa.

B] were having a really good time before I showed up.

C] Get the fuck out, John, and why don't you call before you visit next time?

D] All of the above. Especially C.

1. In a male, a receding hairline is something I find attractive. Not the bald spot at the back but the hair receding at the front. Yes I know this is something you can't do anything about, it's just something I've noticed over the years, that it is attractive to me.

2. Also in a male I like the slightly fattish look, Jack Black style. I don't like it exclusively, it's just something I've noticed is quite attractive on some men with some personalities.

Those would be my "outside the mainstream" attractions.

(My idea of what is attractive in women is about a light year broader than males.)

I think tsq is spot on regarding the shorter hair. It's the confidence. I don't associate longer hair with hiding, but for some reason a woman with shorter hair strikes me as more confident, strong and I suppose, practical. And I love those qualities. Perhaps not practical per say, but strong and confident, oh yeah!

As for what else...I used to have a mold, so to say. But these days, I'm more open. I have things I prefer, yes. Like women shorter than me (not a problem most of the time seeing as I'm 6'3"). Granted, I prefer women around a certain height range, but it's not like I find a women completely unseemly is she fits the criteria.

I am however far more likely to fall for a woman that has shapes and even some extra "padding" then I am to fall for someone who's really thin. It's just not my thing. I like shapes and I don't want to feel like I'll risk breaking the poor girl!

But more and more I'm going towards personality. In the end that matters the most. My ex was a girl with a fantastic body but in the end just waaay wrong personality wise for me. And then it doesn't matter how much I like her body.
A great voice.... I'm far more turned on by Ian McShane than Brad Pitt.
Hell, I'm more turned on by Ian McShane then by Brad Pitt.

A good sense of humor is paramount. I have an extremely warped sense of humor and not many women share it. She also, of course, has to be intelligent. Maturity is also a big factor. I've found that maturity isn't so much tied to age, though. Plenty of women (and men, for that matter) my age who still don't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

Physically, I like curves. I've dated some really skinny girls and I'm just not very comfortable with it, because I feel like I can't be rough with them. I've normally had a thing for short ones, though. The shortest woman I dated was 4'10", and I've dated a few that were right at 5'0". My ex is 5'4", and my current girlfriend is easily the tallest, just a couple inches shorter than me. That took some getting used to.

Hair really depends on the woman. Some look good with short hair, some with long, and then there's the whole color/style aspect. What looks good on one woman may look terrible on another, so I don't have any preferences there--it really varies.

I'll tell you one thing, nothing electrifies me like a good smile. And a nice singing voice. Mmm.

Am I the only one who thinks breasts and butts are kind of overrated? Don't get me wrong, I certainly like them and find them sexy, but some women seem to think men won't even date them unless they have huge boobs and a big ass. I don't have any specific preferences there, either, as long as there's something for me to hold onto. ;)

Robert Maxwell names quite a few of the things I'd be seeking in a woman: humour (most definitely not a cruel or caustic sense of humour, but definitely a rather warped and twisted one), intelligence, maturity (which I'd define as awareness of one's self past and present, taking into account one's limitations and personal efforts to grow as a person). But probably the most important characteristic is what I can only describe as vision. I'd like a woman who can perceive the bigger pictures, see the wider patterns, place herself outside and in relation to the collective zeitgeist. An independent thinker who sticks to her notions of honesty and ethics regardless of what anyone else is doing. Who isn't limited by commitment to groups or ideological affiliations. I'd like a woman with a deep love for our people, a woman who's optimistic and cynical in equal measure. Above all, a woman who can understand me. I'm drawn to empathic, protective, principled women who possess a certain power and a stability I've often lacked, yet who might need someone to be there for them. A woman who appreciates symbiosis and loyalty and knows how to be flexible while remaining true to herself.

As for physically, I've far less interest in that, but one thing I do note - and this falls outside the accepted mainstream - is that big breasts are a personal turn-off. I prefer small breasts. In the past I've put forward an explanation along the lines of "getting in the way of a woman's figure", but I suspect the real reason is actually the link to milk production; I've always intended to be the "primary caregiver" to any babies, so I suspect I'm making the subconscious association between big breasts and nursing, only for me it registers as a "threat" rather than a sexually preferable characteristic? Maybe?

Of course we short-haired women are sexy! :D

I'd trample over every vanilla-cookie-cutter-pretty boy in Hollywood if Alan Rickman so much as winked at me.

Alan Rickman. In addition to the voice and intelligence... interesting good looks, and talent. You'll have to fight me for him.
