Some small updates on the Simon & Schuster website.

All three volumes in David Mack's Cold Equations TNG trilogy are now listed, with release dates of:

    #1 - The Persistence of Memory - October 30
    #2 - Silent Weapons - November 27
    #3 - The Body Electric - January 13, 2013

eBooks will be released on these dates - paper copies will start showing up in the week or two before that. The date for #3 has me a little concerned - mid-month is not a traditional release point for Trek novels, and its not clear whether this is therefore a delayed December release, an early January release, or indicative of any shift in Pocket release strategy.

The Plagues of Night cover appears to have been finalised, with no changes from the originally solicited version.

Also, a brand-new listing has appeared today for another Haynes manual (you may remember their USS Enterprise release):

    A BoP manual?

There's also a listing for "Star Trek Classic Quotes", with a blurb that tells us more about the binding that the content...

Book 2 will be out November 27, and book 3 January 13? That's a bit odd.

-Why not release at the end of December?
-Does this mean there won't be a book at the end of January? Are all future releases going to be around the middle of the month?

I wonder how big the Haynes manual will say the Bird of Prey is? Automatic fail!:)

I thought the DS9 tech manual already tried to say there are different Bird of Prey classes, some different sizes than others? Granted, it is odd that they all keep the exact same design regardless of their size...

There actually is a change to the Plagues of Night cover. The registry of the Galaxy-class starship (the USS Robinson?) has been corrected. It began with a "1" on the earlier cover, but is now a "7".

A glance at the calendar would answer your question.

New mass-market paperbacks tend to be released on the last Tuesday of every month. But the last Tuesday in December 2012 is December 25th — Christmas Day. There will be no shipping or deliveries that day.

It can't release the following Tuesday because that's New Year's Day — same problem.

In all likelihood, January 13 is a typo, and the actual release date will be the next available Tuesday, January 8.

^^I forgot Christmas is on a Tuesday this year. That makes sense.

Unless, of course, Pocket decides to start shipping via reindeer-powered sleigh.

Aside: A new Haynes manual was just released for the Millennium Falcon.

Apparently the Enterprise one sold pretty well.

That does make some sense - still, it's strange that it's delayed two whole weeks (or three, if the Jan 13 date is correct) when other distribution systems (CDs, DVDs, comics) are, from past experience, only put back to the next working day as a result of the holiday.

Yeah, I would think Pocket would like too try to cash in on the Boxing Day crowds with that third book. I realize that they still can in mid-January, but a lot of people might not save their Christmas money till then.

^ I find it strange, as well, but the honest answer might be that the book's release has been moved back to cover for the fact that I'm running late in my writing of the manuscripts. So, on the off chance that this all actually my fault, mea culpa, and my sincere apologies.

Well, if it's just a missed deadline thing, say no more. After all, you're only human.

    You are human, right? ;)

We all know that the wait will be worth it, so no worries.

I for one would rather wait a while longer to read a better book than get a book on time that's only half-assed.

Maybe Pocket are waiting to see if the world ends on 21 December 2012, before releasing the book? :)

A bird-of-prey tech manual? I'd rather have one that features the Defiant, Voyager, the runabouts etc

Hey, even something from David Mack that is only "half-assed" is better than many peoples' whole ass.

Not that he would ever do anything half-assed.

You should look at the DS9 technical manual. It's very well illustrated, and has large sections about the Defiant.

Nevertheless, I definitely prefer Mack's books to be fully assed.
