Ultimately, I don't have an issue with the TP branding so long as the cover and back cover let's me know which franchises are prominent. As a fan of DS9 I want to know which TP books continue the DS9 relaunch narrative if there won't be proper DS9 books like there will be with Voyager.

I apologize if you felt that was directed specifically at you. I'm slowly discovering the difference between saying something to yourself and posting it to a BBS. I was just wondering how someone could assume a person's feelings on all of Trek over a 45 year span based on just a few messages. I've noticed a fairly strong reaction in a number of topics and can only assume that what I'm trying to say isn't coming across the way I've intended.

There's all sorts of Trek fans. Some collect everything. Some only watch the shows or even just one series. Some try to fit all the books into one cohesive whole awhile others approach each book as a window into a parallel universe, similar to the main one but with minor differences. IDIC is a cliché but it's true nonetheless. The differences are what makes it more than the sum of it's parts.

Actually it seemed rather ironic considering the fact that you basically hit the ground running with "I think this is no good therefore it's no good" ;)

Put it down to newbie training time and let's see if we can understand each other a bit better. I'll make the effort to be clearer in what I say and what I actually mean.

Honestly, I think the books we've gotten in the last decade or so have done an incredible job of moving beyond this kind of storytelling. I've honestly been kind of amazed at times how far the books have been able to raise the bar in terms of character development and types of stories being told. Hell I think most of the characters have gotten more development in the books than they ever got in the shows, just look at what Kirsten Beyer did with Chakotay. I'd even go so far as to say that IMO most of the books we've gotten over the 11 year are better than alot of the episodes and movies. When it comes to Trek stories, I would not even hesitate to put Serpents Among the Ruins, Avatar, Orion's Hounds, or Full Circle up there with "City on The Edge of Forever", The Wrath of Khan, "In the Pale Moonlight" or "The Inner Light".

Actually it'd be more shocking if the thread was around this long and stayed on topic. :p
