STO - Can I just buy the Soverign

knowthyself

Commander
Red Shirt
As much fun as I'm having flying around my kitbashed miranda class ship, all I really want to do is fly around the soverign class and I think I'd be good. I just don't have the time. I mean Mass Effect comes out next week and I have to finish it before my kid is born in April. You know, priorities lol

So, does anyone know, can I just buy the Soverign? and if so how do I go about doing that? Do I have to be a certain rank or some such thing? And what does it cost?

Any help is appreciated.

You have to be an Admiral to fly the Sovereign. Assuming you want to fly cruisers only it would go Miranda, Constitution, one of the Heavy Cruisers or Excelsior, Galaxy, Sovereign.

If you're a Gold Member, you will get a free ship token at Rear Admiral Lower Half which you can use to pick up the ship. You can also buy at anytime at RA rank or higher.

The Sovereign (Assault Cruiser) was my favorite ship until the Excelsior Refit came out.

those charts are nice!

So basically, I would have to play the game, work my way up to admiral in order to get the soverign? Is this correct? I thought that perhaps something had changed after going to free to play, that maybeyou could just buy the ship you wanted.

F2P means you don't have to pay a subscription fee. But the game it's self is still a MMORPG
EDIT with Doff missions it's easy to level to Admiral. Even with casual play.

When you get around level 10 (I forget the exact level) you get a crew. (duty officers aka doffs) it's a card trading mini game where you assign crew to go on various missions. It's quite in depth. It awards xl, dilithium, equipments, bridge officers etc..... It's possible to level all the way to 50 just by playing with them if you wanted.

It really isn't hard to level up in this game. Early on, completing a single featured episode mission will practically grant you almost enough xp for 1 level. By the time you complete the first two Featured Episodes (Klingon and Romulan arc), you should be Captain and just a level or two shy of Rear Admiral and that Sovereign.

True. I had a free day (rarity) and I level grinded from Lt. to Capt. in probably a little over 4 or 5 hours.

Although the experience points for DOFF missions has been cut severely, it's still possible to rank up pretty fast. Just log on twice a day and send the DOFFs out on their assignments so that you have 20 assignments running at all times.
