It's gonna be Khan (pretty damn sure now with the pics)

There is absolutely nothing in those photos that is in any way evocative of Khan.

There is only fan expectation based on the fact that this is "Star Trek II." Except it isn't.

For all we know this is a well-groomed, smooth-headed Klingon in a Starfleet outfit. A few TOS Klingons looked this bland and human(Bob the Discount Klingon, anybody?) and we know that Arne Darvin was a Klingon agent in human disguise. Cumberbatch could be a smooth-head or a ridged Klingon who's had cosmetic surgery to blend into Starfleet.

Maybe he's not Khan but he could be one of his followers. What if Khan died in his chamber on the Botany Bay in this timeline and this dude takes over leadership of the Botany Bayers.

Maybe he's... brace for it guys, this is gonna be a gigantic shock to all of you Trekkies.

...an original character?

*Gigantic gasp from the audience*

At first I thought they might be throwing us a curve ball but I am convinced more than ever CumberKhan it is

The newest batch of spy pics over at Trekmovie show Khan physically holding off Spock with one arm and choking him with one arm (remember anyone who did that in Trek II to chekov?)

What character could be physically stronger than an enraged spock? Only one I can think of

Gary Mitchell... Or pretty much any android.

Or, y'know, a new character. I like the suggestion upthread that he could be a follower of Khan, with Khan having died this time.

:scream: NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, could be.

Personally, I think some people have Khan on the brain. If it was officially announced 'Khan Does Not Appear In This Movie', people would be insisting it was a clever deception ploy. Kind of like conspiracy theories in general.

I hope Khan is NOT in the movie, if only because Mr Montalban would be such a difficult act to follow. Plenty of possibilities for interesting new villains without doing more retreads.

I agree completely. Are people actually serious that this must be Khan, or is this only a joke?

This photo is a Rorsch test of sorts, I think!

TBH, if I was making this movie, I'd probably have a really early scene where a suave figure surrounded by followers calls for silence, says "I am Khan Noonian Singh" and immediately gets stabbed/phasered/throttled/disintegrated by Cumberbatch, who then says "right, now that that loser is out of the way, how about you follow someone who's *really* superior..."

Yeah, everything but his skin color screams Khan to me.

Maybe this version of Khan is a British national who grew up in India (like a lot of British people do today) and thus identifies more with Indian culture he grew up with rather than with British/Western culture of his parents.

Perhaps in Khan's original century, the British still had very strong ties to India.

^ I think it would push canon too far for Khan to have been influenced by Indian culture. There was certainly nothing Indian about him the first time around.

Maybe it's Norman the android, working for Harry Mudd?

Cumberbatch actually does look like Norman!

Yay, the colored skies are back!

I thought "smooth-headed klingon" too but didn't see the starfleet crest on his shirt. He could still be a klingon. Who knows.
