I want American prices![]()
I don't. Gas prices can't be high enough as far as I'm concerned, encourages people to use alternative transportation instead of stinking up the city.![]()
But many people don't need their car and they might think twice if a litre costs 5€ or 10€...
Besides, car owners are leeches on society anyway, with double or triple the gas tax they would pay a fairer share of the costs they inflict on the tax payer.
None of those taxes combined come even close to covering the enormous price of maintaining a modern highway system. And that's not even starting on the environmental and health costs inflicted by the exhaust fumes of all those internal combustion engines.
eta: also think about how much all that real-estate is worth in eg. central London that's occupied by parking cars...
Alright, I'll bite. I honestly want to hear your explanation, because that must be the most ridiculous thing I've heard. I wanna know if it has any merit. We're already paying double the base price in taxes and road tax has doubled since the 90's. What more do you want? Bloody hell, we pay taxes on the taxes...
And every other alternative, (ie. Bio diesel, ethanol e85) is even more expensive. I might not look that on paper but in reality, it is. I've owned petrol, diesel and E85 fueled cars. Well more precisely one car that ran all those. But you get the picture.
Which could be so much more usefully filled with what? Even more buildings? Cram even more people into our nations desperately overpopulated capital?

last time i passed a gas station it was $3.85/9.![]()
If I used public transportation I'd have to wait for 4 hours after work for the first bus of the day, I think I'll drive myself. If I used public transportation to get to work, my commute would take me over an hour instead of the 15 minutes it takes me to drive myself. No thanks!
