Almost went Excellent, but I think they wasted an opportunity with the 'schizo' patient. The actor had a menacing quality that made it difficult to then sympathize at the end as voices ceased. But the other elements nearly pushed into 'at its best' quality.

OBSERVERMANIA!

The Nina who unlocked the vault had two regular hands. She could be a shape-shifter or alt-Nina or the writers just plain forgot.

Or in this set of universes she always had her arm. I don't recall an earlier scene showing otherwise.

She has a cybernetic arm concealed in artificial skin that looks like normal human flesh.
There was a reason they zoomed in on it. And there's also a reason they revealed, after that intentional zooming in, that the allegedly real Nina has been captured.

You might have something there. It's been so long since Nina's bionic arm was of importance to the story, I had almost forgotten that she had one. At least in our set of realities.

But yes, 'our' Nina had her arm damaged by trying to prevent Walter from crossing over in 1985 (I can't remember if she lost it entirely, or if there was some kind of cellular damage from contact with the soft spot).

This was not the story she told Dunham in the pilot, but obviously at that time, she wasn't about to reveal the real reason why she had a fake arm designed by Belly.

You're overthinking it, really. The whole point of showcasing the hand was to give the audience a clue that, in all likelihood, it's a shapeshifter. Since, as far as I know, they've never been shown to be able to duplicate technology when they shift.

^Hmmm, then they could use the method used in The Thing '11 and check people for fillings. Those that don't = shapeshifter.
