Well put. In the end they belong to George Lucas, and he could turn them into softcore porno or black-and-white silent movies if he so chose. I just decided quite a few years ago to try to enjoy the Saga on its own merits, and whether the film be strong or weak to get the most I can out of it.

Oh, I'm sure it's just for visual effect. To make an emotional statement. In the SW universe someone like Shmi never learned how to make her life-consciousness survive physical death and become one with the Force.

Still, it's a terrific and moving piece of artwork, isn't it? I like it a lot.

Anyways, I've decided I'm going to rewatch Episode I on DVD or BluRay this weekend. Seeing the film in 3-D on a huge screen really deepened my appreciation for the movie, as flawed as it is. The experience won't be the same on a 32" HDTV and without 3-D glasses but I have a jones to see the film again. Sometimes---every once in a while---I get on a major TREK or SW kick and have to satiate it with a living room marathon.

I used to be like that. Mandatory Star Wars OT rewatch in may (prequels optional), LOTR & SW marathon around Christmas. I might go back to doing that.

Well, yes...in the long run. But in the short term and for a majority of his mortal life, though, Anakin would have been a cybernetic monster.

um, huh? He was a mass murderer who served an oppressive dictator, killed his wife, and betrayed most of his friends. Looking at Anakin's life overall, you think the first thing she'd say upon meeting him as a force ghost would be "nice job saving my grandson?"

In the end he redeemed himself, but only after roughly 25 years as one of the greatest villains in galactic history. He just stood by and watched while billions perished on Alderaan, played an integral part in the slaughter and enslavement of the Wookiees and committed other crimes both direct and indirect. Shmi was a mother like any other so she would have still loved her son, but she would have felt heartbroken and betrayed by what he became in the second half of his life.
