Historical stories not covered enough by Hollywood

Do you guys know of any historical events that would make great movies that don't exist?

To me the first thing that comes to mind is Shackleton's Artcic adventure. It's an amazing tale of survival, but I don't think it's received the high budget Hollywood treatment yet.

Another interesting story is that was the Germany cruiser SMS Emden in World War I. With the outbreak of war, and orders to disrupt Allied shipping no matter the cost, the Emden began pirate-like operations in the Indian ocean. Captain Müller was always gentlemanly to the captains and passengers of the ships he captured, and he made certain that every captured British sailor was treated well and kept safe. Civilians were usually release and boated of the captain's hospitality.

While Hollywood doesn't like making movies about our former enemies, this story seems to be right up their alley for a maverick gentleman pirate type story.

Other than his inhumane treatment in the largely entertaining, yet-nearly-completely fictional Braveheart. I'm unaware of any films being made about his life.

Hell, the reference to the "Brave Heart" in Scottish history is about The Bruce, it was co-opted by Wallace for the purposes of the movie!

I totally agree. In fact, for a long time I've thought a Trek version of it would make for an excellent film.

Though, around these parts "Pueblo Incident" has a different connotation--one equally worthy of film I think.

The Spanish had kept groups of Pueblo (one of the most peaceful of all the NA tribes) completely segregated from one another. Yet through an ingenious communication system--they use a series of knotted ropes that were akin to a simple Morse Code--they planned and organized a siege on Santa Fe.

They sabotaged the city's irrigation system, completely took the Spanish by surprise, and captured the praca within days forcing the Spanish to retreat all the way to El Paso.

Personally, I think the story of Phill Nixon still needs to be told. Think Rocky but with darts.

I remembered that one as soon as I underlined 'any'. I should have known better than to bank on ignorance of obscurish films on this board.

The Bruce is not available in the US through offline channels as near as I can tell, and I'm not willing to spend money on it sight-unseen.

It certainly doesn't count for a Hollywood production.

I think the story surrounding the Radium Girls would make for a good movie. It has tragedy, corruption, courtroom drama, and beautiful young girls. Something for everyone.

The Revolutionary War, or the War of 1812. I don't think there are enough stories about early U.S history. There's the Civil War, but that seems to have been done accordingly with Gettysburg, Gods & Generals, and another I'm forgetting. There was the John Adams miniseries, but it would be fun to see something even earlier than that, like during Washington's term right when it officially became an independent country.

The life of the Prophet Mohammed (saw). During these trying times, it would be interesting to know the man who has single-handedly affected the lives of billions. And whose teachings are still the fastest growing religion in the world. If Moses and Jesus got the epic blockbuster treatment, we are overdue for this one.
