NHL 2011/2012 Season

My favorite Shark of all time, Owen Nolan, announced his retirement today. He brings some great memories of watching the Sharks in the early years and when I was slowly becoming a fan of the game, it was Nolan who was that always constant. One could say he got me to be the Hockey fan I am today.

If there was ever a time to hang the first number in HP Pavilion, it's Nolan's. Hopefully the Sharks make it happen either this season or Next. Still, as a Sharks fan it's a sad day but it's a great day all the same.

I was amused by his announcing his retirement since he hasn't played in the NHL for two years.

But yes, he was a good player back in the day.

I honestly thought he was already retired. Still, reminiscing about his playing days and hearing about how emotional he was during the press conference (I didn't watch it as I was at work) is what today was all about. He was, afterall, the face of the San Jose Sharks for 8 seasons, 5 of them being captain. It was a good day.

Ooh, that'll be cool. Glad to see some Canadian love. Although it would be great if the Leafs were a bit better. Still, bigger market, so it makes sense.

^ In spite of the Leafs record post-lockout, they actually tend to play very close, exciting games with Detroit. The Leafs\Wings matchup this season was probably some of the best hockey I've seen Toronto play so far this year.

Red Wings/Leafs should be a great game. And that's going to be a monster crowd (Michigan Stadium's current capacity is over 100,000). Should be fun to see on TV.

I have no idea what happened but I'm assuming technical difficulties.

I've never really cared much for CBC's broadcasters. Years ago, I'd watch the Leafs games on TV with the sound off while listening to the radio broadcast for play-by-play and commentary.

Well Rick Nash is apparently on the block for real, assuming he waives his NTC.

At 7+ million for another 6 years that'll be hard to swing though, you can definitely count out the Canucks. The Leafs are a possibility, but I wonder if he'd waive his NTC to play with them.

Somehow I bet Philly gets him, they always seem to land the big name.

The Leafs would probably have to give up a lot to get Nash. I just don't think he's that great a player. I'd rather see Grabovski (UFA) signed by the end of the year than Nash with that 7 million per season hit.

Our offense seems relatively fine right now, it's defense that's the concern. Don't get me wrong, they might try and get him if they can get a good deal, but I doubt they want to risk anything that might requiring moving good players to stay under the cap.

I grew up with Bob Cole and Harry Neale, to which Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson can't hold a candle!

Just an update about Rick Nash, ESPN is idly speculating that the Rangers would make a move for him. Obviously, not based on anything concrete, but that would make them even more dominant.

Although nobody is as dominant as the Red Wings. God Damn. Last time they lost at home was before Tebow started his win streak.

I've heard a few reports saying that A) the Rangers don't really need him and B) it'd mess the team's chemistry up too much considering what it would take to get him.

Nash is overpaid for what what he's done. Sure, he's been on a lousy team but other players have done quite while on crap clubs. I just don't think Nash is worth what Columbus would be asking.

The Leafs are apparently one of the five clubs he'd agree to go to and I really hope that Burke isn't that stupid. Nash does not address the problems that team has. He isn't a d-man or goalie and that's where they need help. Scoring goals isn't a problem (although it has been the past few games). Stopping them definitely is.

I've been hearing that Nash might be on his way to San Jose. I would love to see him on the team, but if it means giving up someone like Couture or Pavelski, I don't know if that is worth it. Anyone else is fair game though, as the Sharks have been struggling a lot lately.
