I'm kinda just barely paying attention, but was the doc also back in 1960? And now looks the same in 2012?

Yes. And Neill's character also made use of the term "jumping" for what the prisoner's (and presumably the doctor and shrink) have done.

^

Since I've deleted the pilot ep from my DVR I can't go back and check this, but wasn't Hauser the young guard who arrived at the Rock right after everyone disappeared in '63? If so, then he had to have 'jumped' at one point or another, because he sure as hell doesn't look to be in his seventies, which he'd almost have to be if he lived through the intervening years.

All in all, I'm enjoying the show enough to keep coming back to it each week, though I concur with some of the above posts that we need to see a bit more plot reveal than we're getting. Them chasing after the Prisoner of the Week, every week, will get old very soon.

Yeah, that was Hauser and his age being an issue was discussed. Either the producers are going to ignore it or make it a plot point.

I liked the actor who played the bank robber but once again, the whole thing ends up with some kind of annoyingly insipid pop psychology explanation. Why couldn't the guy just rob banks because that's where the money is?

Maybe I should start fast-forwarding to the end of the episodes where some movement might be taking place on the plot arc. So far, it looks like it's either memory manipulation or time travel. Or both. Hard to envision how those two could be jammed together.
When they were testing the keys at the end Hauser said something about the prisoners jumping.
That could be jumping between realities. :D That might explain why the prisoners and guards vanishing could be kept secret, which is looney - nobody had any friends or family who noticed they were missing? It happened in a parallel reality, the one where a grumpy Romulan miner will one day blow up Vulcan.

They're certainly ignoring the fact that Hauser's superior in the flashbacks was clearly the bartender/surrogate father figure for Tits McGee (sorry, I'm really bad with names). You know, the guy who lied to her about her grandfather being his guard buddy back at Alcatraz, which Tits hasn't confronted in any way, shape, or form since learning the truth about him.

New ep Tonight!

S1 EP5 "Guy Hastings"
A guard from Alcatraz appears and encounters Ray, whom Rebecca suspects the guard may be using to track down her grandfather.

I still need to watch ep 4...will probably do that later. :bolian:

[edit] Finished watching "Cal Sweeney" pretty good ep.

One thing they did not show is what happned with Guy at the end. Can we assume that Hauser brought him to the secret prison, and if so, would he be in a cell? he was not an inmate so what are there plans with the guards as they came back?

MODS, any chance if renaming this thread so its a season 1 review thread? Would you mind that Jetfire since your the OP?

Ah, finally some answers! It's all about earthquake prediction. :D

Anyone watch last night? I didn't get a chance so I will have to wait till next Mon.

FOX shows took a hit with House down 17% to a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating and Alcatraz down 21% from last week to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.

9PM FOX Alcatraz 2.2/5 6.78

Hopefully it will bounce back and remain steady. :sigh:

Ouch, on top of 10% drops last time and the time before that...I think we're seeing the effects of not getting into an interesting story quickly. If people wanted to see a police procedural, they could watch CBS. There's probably a good sci fi story in here somewhere, but they're rapidly running out of time to start telling it.

And next week, we're back to a dreary procedural, sigh...

Yeah, I'm not enjoying it as much with each episode, the 'wait, what?' hooks at the end notwithstanding. Not enough cleavage anymore either... :(

I'm calling it.

Alcatraz sucks and has no potential.

Now unless the entire universe wants to conspire to prove me wrong, we've got 8 tedious and painful weeks till cancellation.

Shit.

Alcatraz vs. Tera Nova.

No matter who wins. We lose.

That is fine with me. :)

[edit] I changed it with this post if a MOD wants to do the same with the original title. :bolian: I would greatly appreciate it. :D

I can't think of what answer to the mysteries they can come up with, that will be worth all this slogging through. At least with Lost, the characters and twists were fun, so that even if the answers sucked/made no sense/never happened, we were still entertained.

This show is like Grimm - cop show with genre elements. But Grimm has the genre stuff within the cases-of-the-week. If Alcatraz had more sci fi elements attached to each of the returning criminals, more than just that they're impossibly young, then there might be more entertainment value.

How about "Alcatraz: The Triumphant Final Season"?

Hard as it is, I'm purposely going to avoid reading the above comments until I watch the ep, hopefully this evening. Good to see though, that some folks are still watching and posting to this thread. There's just enough in this show to keep me coming back for more.

:techman:

16 years ago, they tried to draft Remo Unarmed and dangerous?

Is this the middle of the story?

If they're been tracking escapees for 16 years at the least, why are they so far behind the curve?

Or has Sam Neil Being Field of Dreamsing it?

if you build it they will come.

It would have cost tens and tens of millions to build that underground facility.

When did bend it like Becjkem show up?

Is she aging?

I mean we know what she looked lie 16 years ago, because of Bend it like Beckem and frankly, she's a dead ringer for her younger self.

So the actress isn't ageing even if the character is.

^That's not Remo.

The most annoying thing I am getting from the show is the repeat of Lost's "no one asks questions when they get the chance". Fuck, if I had caught Guy he wouldn't have left my sight until I had grilled him for every ounce of information he's got, Sam Neill bedamned.
