The Phantom Menace 3D Release

It's one thing to give legitimate criticism and want a movie to be better. It's another ball game entirely to claim it raped your stupid childhood.
I hadn't noticed anything like that mentioned in this thread.

It's an exaggeration, but if you've seen comments on other threads, message boards and YouTube about the prequels then you know very well what I'm talking about. Some fans think Lucas urinated on their heads when he made the prequels and won't stop bitching about how THEY'D have made them better. Which is their right and I won't say it isn't, but the sheer anger and unfettered rage some fanboys express over a simple movie is just creepy sometimes.
An exaggeration like how those nacho stained fanboys exaggerate about how bad the prequels are :p

Some people do go too far with the comments against Lucas. I think he even mentioned it in an interview where he was asked if he would make Star Wars 7,8,9 he replied "Why would I make any more,... when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?".

Gods damn it!

Even though my views on the matter pretty much reflect cooleddie's, that really fucking got to me.

It's like all of a sudden he's playing a victim, while in fact the only thing that these *evil* fans demand of him (and we're practically begging!) is that he released the unaltered Original Trilogy in the highest quality possible (which is currently blu-ray).

Now, I don't buy that the-original-prints-are-FUBAR crap for one frakking second, and I'd bet he'll eventually give in and release them, but the problem is that those would then be considered ULTIMATE by the fans, so there would be no reason for them to buy Star Wars movies ever again (or until some new, "superior" standard succeeds blu-ray, and it's gonna be years before that happens).

It would be like crippling the golden goose in a way.

The thing is, Lucas sees the Star Wars trilogy as a software suite now - keep releasing new versions, convince people that they need to upgrade, and the money will keep rolling in.

There was "Star Wars" in '77, there was SW 1.1. ("A New Hope") in 1981, Star Wars 2.0 in 1997, 2.1 in '04, 3.0 in 2011 and so on. How high the version number will go before the truly ULTIMATE edition is released, for the better part it's up to the fans really. Because each and every re-release to date has made millions, which, from a purely financial standpoint (the only one that truly matters nowadays), made the alterations abso-fucking-lutely justified.

I can't stress how significant the impending success (or failure) of Episode I 3D will be. It's a referendum of sorts. Hard core OT fans and film enthusiasts really need this release to bomb, because if it doesn't, 12 years of ferocious mud throwing campaign will have basically been for naught.

I can already see Lucas on The Daily Show saying: "See? I told ya people loved the prequels."

Interesting times indeed....

That isn't all those fans are doing. That might be all you're doing but don't pretend for a minute that that's what all the Lucas bashers are doing. IF that was all they were doing then he would be playing the victim.

Over the last fifteen years I have seen that man's name, character and talents slammed mercilessly. I've seen him brought into conversations that have nothing to do with him just for a random slam. I've seen his creatorship of the OT questioned and in some cases-by the greatly uniformed-reapproriated and handed out to people who had faaar lesser influence and control over those films than he had.

I've never seen a person ripped apart like he has been simply because they disagree with a creative decision. Yeah, maybe Han did shoot first but Lucas doesn't deserve to get shot for disagreeing.

That's far more than your assertion that the fans have simply asked for the original films released unaltered in a high quality state. The fans have been acting like boorish, sociopathic asshats who use their ability to be heard long and wide as an excuse to abuse somebody who really hasn't done anything that merits the treatment.

Hitler gets a better rap than George Lucas does. Sure he killed a few Jew but goddammit he's not sitting on the OOT!

You're lucky he doesn't take every last print of the OOT and hold a bonfire in the backyard of Skywalker Ranch just to spite you.

Besides LFL stated before the release of the Complete Saga that it wasn't the ULTIMATE release of the series. You'll get your OOT. After the 3D releases are out on Blu-Ray. Oh yes, there WILL be a super set. But HE will make you WAIT for it!

The price of the fanbase acting like a bunch of spoiled assholes.

I like to believe that those anti-Lucas jihadists you speak of are in a minority. Perhaps not a vast minority, and certainly a very very vocal one, but still a minority.

Why would Lucas even pay attention to these people is beyond me.

And we haven't even made it past page 10 yet. :D

The jihadists are definately in the minority. The strange thing about the prequels is that the majority indeed doesn't really like them (everyone I know criticizes them when they come up in a discussion), but they are watched anyway because there are a lot of great bits.

I still visit AICN but it's generally a few days behind most sites with the news these days. The sociopaths in the talkback sections are the most entertaining bit of it. Some of them are genuinely - and intentionally - funny.

With all this fandom talk I checked out Supershadow after all these years and the guy is still going. Most recent update....today... It's sad how this guy is pulling the same crap a decade later.

It doesn't help that when Mortis came out people were saying, in so many words, "Supershadow was right".

I agree. I've often wondered how many death threats he sees in a year. It's probably not Obama levels, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the same ballpark (seeing as how the the potential base isn't limited to the US.

I also think there's a strong possibility that Katie has started receiving them as well, which totally put him over the edge--and is the main reason for his recent occupation change.

I like to ridicule him as much as the next guy, but I still have a fundamental understanding that, in the end, it's his Star Wars. I just don't understand why that's such a hard concept to grasp for some people.

Part of the problem here is that he's holding future releases hostage based on the performance of Episode 1. Whether we hate it or not, if we don't go see it, we don't get to see the original trilogy on the big screen again.

I've known guys who condemn Lucas like a Bosnian war criminal at the Hague because he's never released digitally restored and cleaned-up versions of his original, unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy on disc. "How dare he make an Ewok digitally blink when we haven't even gotten the original 1977 version of the first movie on anamorphic widescreen disc! The man's a monster! Someone needs to take the films out of his hands before he completely ruins them! The heartless, cruel bastard!!"

Take a chill pill and shut the fuck up, Jawa-boy. I'D like a digitally restored anamorphic widescreen version of the original 1977 film on disc, too. But I'm not going to call the man a loser or a monster because he hasn't done it yet. And if he never does it? You know what? I can live with it. I'm not going to sink into a suicidal depression and begin dragging a razor blade across my wrists because Lucas never gave me all the different versions of his films that I wanted. I'm as big a STAR WARS fan as there is, and people who know me are brutally aware of that. But I don't make things personal and petty. I have a life to lead and enough real issues to deal with...I don't have time to draw-and-quarter George Lucas and then burn what's left of him at the stake just because the man added a few annoying and cheesy things to his movies over the years.

As much as the Greedo-shooting-first alteration pissed me off and makes no sense in the context of Han's character in Episode IV, I can't do anything about it. It's not my film. So I'm just going to enjoy it as much as I can, take the good with the bad and get on with more important things. Movies can be awesome and life-changing things...but they're not life.

Sure you can. You can hire a couple of mercs to break into the Skywalker ranch, steal the original prints, and sell them on ebay.

That's evil.

And potentially doable. You gonna be busy this coming weekend?

This should be the tagline for the new ad campaign.

"Thirteen years ago you were reintroduced to that galaxy far, far away...

Now...relive all the excitement and adventure...feel the thrill...

of sitting next to a sexless, obese nerd who's going to be complaining throughout the whole movie!

STAR WARS Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3-D

Because it never hurts to be reminded why you have no faith in the human race."

Yet for some reason that sexless obese nerd still seems willing to part with his money in order to see a film that he hates.

It's a sickness.

He can't reach orgasm while masturbating later that night unless he's spent more than two hours complaining about why Watto, midi-chlorians or Liam Neeson violate and piss all over the STAR WARS continuity and legacy. The images flickering by on the big screen get his nerd juices flowing. Some nerdboys don't feel alive or that they have any worth in this world unless they tear something down and act all superior and snobby about it.
