The Phantom Menace 3D Release

The Phantom Menace, to me, is one of those guilty pleasure movies. It's not a good movie, by any means, but I still love it. Kinda like Batman & Robin.

I saw the trailer the other day and the scene with Darth Maul ignited his double-bladed lightsaber still gives me chills. So, yeah, I'll be there to watch it in 3D.

I thought the Phantom Menace was a load of crap personally, with a few entertaining bits sprinkled in, but you know what? I'm going to go see it, because its a Star Wars movie, in 3D, in a cinema. It's worth the price of a semi-decent meal to go see purely for the spectacle, even if I'm going to scream, kick and convulse during the Jar Jar bits, I'm gonna see and hear Duel of the Fates in 3D and Cinema sound. That's worth it.

I really want to, but of my two main Star Wars friends one doesn't like 3D and the other is opposed to re-releases in cinemas. And I don't mind going to see it on my own but some films are spectacles that you really need to see with someone else. So if I find someone to go with I'll probably see it.

Until you step in it and say "oh it actually was crap".
Let's not forget that two people in this thread have confessed to hating the film because the Internet told them to.
If that's the case you have to also believe the possibility that the internet also told people to like it and since millions of dollars is poured into advertising something it's not a far fetched idea to say we get suckered into it.
I've seen all the Star Wars movies on the big screen. I watched all of them just recently, including TPM. I thought it was really bad. Then I was walking through the city today and I hear the Star Wars music playing, I look up and see a trailer for TPM and think "wow that looks great!".

and in the back of my mind I heard "don't give in Luke".

Batman and Robin is devoid of any form of entertainment. There are no memorable action scenes, the script is abysmal and little good acting, outside of Thurman and Michael Gough. TPM has the lightsaber duels, Darth Maul, some great space battles, R2-D2's introductory scene, the podrace. I don't care for Jar-Jar and it's not a perfect movie but it's light-years better than B&R.

Sometimes I like turning my brain off and enjoying a movie without thinking critically about some kind of message. I love Batman & Robin's cheesy one-liners. Well, some of them are pretty bad, but I'm a big fan of Schwarzenegger one-liners. And some of his Mr. Freeze one's are so good I use them in everyday life.

And to say that B & R is devoid of any form of entertainment, is just wrong. I happen to enjoy seeing Uma Thurman in her tight green Poison Ivy costume

There are only a few scenes I really hate. One is what I call the "nepotism scene" with Anakin's "friends". Those kids make Jake Lloyd look like Laurence Olivier.

I don't go out of my way to see 3D movies, particularly...and since I have TPM on blu-ray I am pretty sure I'm not going to trek to the theatre to watch it.

I don't mind it though, even though there are a million plot holes (if Watto doesn't take Republic credits, why didn't Qui-Gon just go to a bank?).

If the banks took Republic credits, why didn't Watto take Republic credits and then just go to the bank?

does the 3D still give people migraines? because headache and nausea is an apt metaphor for the plot haha :P

If the banks took Republic credits, why didn't Watto take Republic credits and then just go to the bank?
And couldn't two Jedi walk into any gambling parlor and win vast sums of money in an hour or two anyhow?

Make your funnies if you want, but it's true. I loved it at first, saw it about a dozen times that summer, but then the internet told me I should hate it so I did.
I'm curious... Did The Internet make you see it for what it really was (something you, by yourself, were incapable of, even after a dozen viewings), or did it just make you feel bad about loving it?

Only way I'm possibly seeing the 3D PT is if it's not only on the big screen, but dubbed in a nice-sounding language I don't understand (maybe Spanish or Portugese?), that I may sit back and enjoy the visuals without having to deal with the script. :p
You're getting soft, dude.

Aw come on, Poison Ivy was a fucking disaster!

It's funny how TPM, despite everything, managed to produce an iconic villain.

Why, world, why?!

Hurry, Qui-Gon, you're going to miss the celebration! Oh, wait. You're dead. Awkward...

I dispute Darth Maul's status as an "iconic" villain... I consider him the biggest disappointment in the movie. He looked cool but we learned NOTHING about him in any way and thus how could we care what happened to him? The only way you even knew he was a bad guy was that he had a red lightsaber.
This, coming from the man who gave us Darth frakking Vader, was the first real inkling of the tide of crap to soon flow our way. He looked good but there was nothing underneath. He's the whole PT in a neat little marketable nutshell.

And if they made him deeper in the EU, big effing deal lol.
