Cast the Dark Tower!

I'm now on Song of Susannah and thoroughly enjoying this series. It seems that we may soon get our adaptation. So...I know many of you have been casting this saga in your head.

Who is in your cast?

Mine...

Roland Deschaine-Nathan Fillion or Ben Browder

Eddie Dean-James Franco

Susannah-Zoe Saldana

Stephen Deschaine-Jeff Bridges or Harrison Ford

Cort-Jesse Ventura

Walter/The Man In Black-Clancy Brown

Eldred Jonas-Christopher Lloyd

Susan Delgado-Bryce Dallas Howard

Your cast...say thankee.

I see Enver Gjokaj of Dollhouse fame as Roland. That series showcased him as a chameleon and I don't think there is a role he can't play.

I like Viggo Mortensen for Roland and I'd cast Gabourey Sidibe as Susannah just to see Eddie carry her around. :)

I like all of these except Roland. Reynolds and Browder are too "pretty." Roland's character in the books is a grizzled, worn-down killer whose arc is learning how to feel basic emotions again. He needs to be played by somebody gaunt and cold and sort of merciless. If I had a time machine, I'd just pick up Clint Eastwood, circa Dirty Harry.

I would agree that this is not gritty enough. Somebody more worn down by life, of indeterminate age but older than those two.

Eddie Dean-James Franco
Hmm... maaaaaybeeee... but Eddie's supposed to be barely into his 20s, isn't he? I think Franco is already too old for that.

Susannah-Zoe Saldana
Whereas this is the other way - Susannah is older than Eddie by a substantial margin. Not as old as Roland obviously, and while Saldana is mid-30s, she doesn't look anywhere near that old IMO. I would need someone who looks mid-40s I think.

Sorry, I know I'm just shooting yours down without suggesting any of my own, but me no can brain today.

Walter/The Man In Black-Clancy Brown
I'm guessing you got that from Carnivale, but aside from the danger of repeating a similar role, I could definitely see that working.

.

Actually, I've never seen Carnivale, but I need to. I just picked CB from the descriptions of Walter, his "voice"and pictured Mr. Brown delivering those lines and portraying that character, as well as tried out others (William Dafoe also scored well in my internal casting session for that role). But CB was my favorite.

On my picks for Roland...much of that will come from light makeup and the actor's craft. From what I've seen of both actors, especially Fillion (but saw some of that at times in Browder's performance as John Crichton), I think either could do it. But certainly there are others.

I had the ages wrong myself because I was thinking of how the characters came across but looking online when thinking about this thread Susannah is actually only in her 20's.

Odd - I always got the impression she was older than that, like about in her 40s.

Maybe it was this part -

In Eddie's when, she would have been 49-50 years old.

- that confused me.

.

:) See, I had no problem keeping those straight. But then, I love time travel stories. But yeah, I got the impression that Susannah and Eddie are fairly close in age. Zoe is a twenty something. James Franco looks like a twenty something and comes across as one. The smart-ass tough with a soft, compassionate core is right up his alley. And I think Zoe has got that ability to play multiple personalities.
