"The Flim Flam brothers challenge the Apples to a Cider Making Contest, but the winners of the contest get to keep the farm."

Two Applejack episodes in a row, but will she actually get a proper episode to herself this week, after last weeks little...surprise.

Dat song.

Every time I think this show can't surprise me, they do anyway. IT's great.

Also, Derpy!

Doctor Whooves wants his cider NOW. ;) He was even there twice, I think.

The song was fun.

Best friendship report ever. "Dear Princess Celestia. I didn't learn anything!"

Applejack episodes are now the best episodes. How the heck did that happen?

Well, now we know how he got his Cutie Mark :D

Yeah.

Well, that was weird. The resolution came out of nowhere and I didn't understand why the Flim Flam brothers would take over Sweet Apple Acres. I thought the angle that they needed the profits from the cider to be profitable made more sense.

Also, the apple family isn't the brightest, huh, letting themselves be dragged into a competition like that?

So many things to love about today's episode — the Flim-Flam Brothers' song was a hilarious tip of the hat to The Music Man, the running gag with Rainbow Dash never getting any cider, Derpy and Doctor Whooves sightings, and Applejack's friendship report... this definitely made it into my top ten episodes. Not just an A, but an A++ for this one.

LOL yeah they finally worked in a "Lulz didn't learn" report.

But the Apple family are slightly smarter than average hicks whether one loves them or not. Granny Smith has her pride and Apple Bloom has a big mouth, Applejack has an ego on her too, it all factored into them competing.

But we do know they have identical twins now.

And all the little moments, Pinkie!, Fluttershy, Dashie and her cider, Big Mac and his goggles, the tail chomping (they haven't done that in a long time), so many shipping moments, the kungfu again (poor Apple Bloom).

Great episode :)

I wouldn't call it "out of nowhere," just rushed. The Flim-Flams were clearly greedy and trying to turn a quick buck (eg., when they offered to license the Apple family apples while keeping 75% of the profits), so nopony wanting to buy their cider kind of left them up the creek without a paddle. It played out faster than I would like, but eh. it's a 22-minute episode. Sometimes they have to rush things.

As for the latter objection, it was basically Granny Smith running her mouth off and offering up everything in the competition rather than just cider rights.

I thought the writers did it right by having Granny Smith come up with the "bet the farm" idea; she's borderline senile, so she's the most likely to come up with a terrible plan. But because she's got seniority, I can totally see Applejack and Big Mac deferring to her judgment even when they shouldn't. Kind of like a CEO who makes a bunch of bad decisions and runs a company into the ground, but the employees go along with it anyway.

Yup, I just chalk it up to Granny's pride and big mouth, the other Apple's tend to stick together through family loyalty and backed her up.

Well, they also had plenty of good cider made before they suspended quality control. Also, they had the farm. I just thought it was unlikely that they would give that up so easily and quickly. Yes, yes, I realise that it's a show for children and I'm overthinking this but they usually do a better job.

Ah, I missed that.
