For the amount of money it costs to rent, may as well pay the extra £3 (At least here in the UK) and its your forever.

Well I just pre-ordered my copy, and it will be arriving Tuesday! I'm in the worst financial shape of my life, having taken a year-break from teaching junior high/high school English to write a novel. Despite that, this order had to be made. I am just way too anxious to see how TNG is going to look on Blu-ray.

I may need to pawn one or two of my DS9 season set DVDs to offset the cost of this purchase; hmm... ;)

< his gaze immediately wanders to DS9 season 7 >... :p

I also have to say (I believe RAMA suggested something like this): I would love to see a 'Grade and Discuss' thread for each episode on this upcoming sampler.

There are a lot of reasons for doing so.

1. Poll questions
Personally, I love poll questions (I think they give an interesting and perhaps more objective gauge of whatever is being discussed).

- an overall grade for the episode in general
- a grade for the special effects work done [this could be general or specific; it could be broken down to the Nth degree, all the way down to things like a separate grade for 'Saucer Separation,' 'Shots of Deneb IV,' etc.]
- a yes/no or pass/fail as to whether the Blu-ray increased your enjoyment of the episode, etc.

2. Concentrated discussion on topics specific to that episode
I've found it hard to locate comments I remember reading on here - there are a lot of pages on this thread! I realize by doing a thread for each episode that it will limit traffic on here; I say this thread can still be used for overarching comments regarding the whole process, SFX, etc.

Also, if I just want to read people's reaction to, say, 'The Inner Light,' then I can just go to that thread and not have to browse through pages of other stuff.

I think some of you know for yourselves the other benefits to a separate thread for each episode. I just looked at the TNG forum - it's not like there's THAT much activity on here (i.e. the first page of threads goes back nearly a week?)

I think 'Grade and Discuss' threads are awesome, but I've very sadly never been a part of them because the only show I cared to take the time to really talk about was Star Trek (and TNG most of all). This is such a great opportunity to apply that concept to TNG; it would be great to get this thing underway from the VERY beginning!

What's cool is that we now have the chance to talk about TNG in a more present tense (which I think is *awesome*), as opposed to just looking back and reflecting on something that happened 25 years ago. I hope you guys consider it. :techman:

Just watching Farpoint HD, and I find myself sad to say I am disappointed by the picture quality.

Yes you can see fantastic details and colours that you never could before, but you can also see white dirt spots that really remastering should have removed. It's not just on wide shots - its close ups too. An example to look out for - Tasha's freezing.

I'm sure most people will be happy and say I should ignore things like that as its the nature of film, but I'm sorry if I am being sold a product on the grounds of improved picture I'm looking more closely - I cant avoid every blemish.

And if I'm not being sold on that promise I can stick to SD (until the sales at least) A consistent bad picture is less distracting than white spots (I'm going have to check the old version now) they may be there to, but not as sharp.

Anyway half an hour in!

Little specs on the Farpoint planet too during Riker's Log unless someone is letting off explosions!

I should have ordered from Play! I'm waiting on Amazon. Still, I won't have time to watch it this weekend anyway, so it'll be a mid-week treat.
