Well, it could be worse. There was that one player a few years ago who didn't go because he was upset that the President only wanted to see him because he won. Had they lost, they wouldn't have been asked to the White House.

Anyway, I agree. It's about the team and it's not political. The President is being the head of state, not the head of government. He is thanking them from the office on behalf of the United States.

It's sad that he couldn't come to an event celebrating the team's accomplishment, but I won't slam the man for his politics.

Just got a surprise call from a friend asking if I wanted to go to the All Star game with him on Sunday!

Great friend. I got to go to the skills competition and young stars game a number of years ago. That was really cool.

eta: from my seat at the skills competition

Man, that TSN broadcast of the All Star Game draft was just painful to watch, Duthie is pretty annoying.

The actual draft itself was pretty fun though.

I never realized it, but Phil Kessel and Bobcat Goldthwait may have been seperated at birth.

When people learn that James Duthie, Nick Kypreos, Doug MacLean, Jim Hughson, Pierre McGuire, Glenn Healy, Aaron Ward and other former players that scored three goals or sat on the bench as a backup are more detrimental to the game than helpful.

Duthie and his half baked jokes make it painful to watch TSN, but if you flip over to Sportsnet to see Kypreos and MacLean barking at each other, you hope it's Saturday night so you can switch over to CBC, but then there's Jim Hughson, whose commentary sounds like I threw the NHL98 back in the computer. Well at least we can watch NBC tomorrow...oh crap...Pierre McGuire!

I think Jim Hughson is top quality but Kypreos, MacLean, McGuire, Healy, Ward are all awful.

Even Ron MacLean has been rubbing my rhubarb the wrong way for the past few years.

Maybe I hate Hughson because between NHL's 98, 2000, 2004, and 2008, he had pretty much the same script.

One of the best color guys is Daryl "Razor" Reaugh. He's been doing a fair amount of HNIC and will do the playoffs on Versus up until the conference finals.

He's genius.

James Reimer was amazing tonight. 49-save shutout against the Senators! :techman: :techman:

I don't mean to take anything away from Reimer's performance, but I've never seen a team get nearly 50 shots and look so unimpressive about it.

Yeah, the Sens took a lot of shots, but very few good shots. Most of what they were doing was just winding and firing from out near the blue line, or at a very sharp angle. There was a point where I was convinced Reimer was bribing them to help up his save percentage.

Well, he didn't get a shutout last night but they still got the win. Let's see how they do tonight against the Jets.

As for last night's game against the Oilers... I've been amused by the talk about the Oilers' Gagner and his increased trade value. He's averaged about 40 points a season and sure, he's young but I don't think one hot game makes him a "star" and increases his trade value.
