I'm more inclined to think about the numerous "Alien Attack" movies that Skiffy produces than a Star Trek episode that takes place in the future on a mining planet..

I thought it was more of an homage to movies like "The Goonies" myself. With a "Cloverfield" bite.

I loved "Super 8".

The alien in question was captured and detained by humans, and presumably suffered at their hands. What would you really expect it to do in those circumstances, play nice?

No. I wasn't really reminded of Super 8 by your analysis of the ending, either.

I never got the impression we were supposed to root for the alien. I thought we were supposed to root for the kids.

I hated this movie

I can't recall thinking of Devil In The Dark, only that I wanted the movie to end, my money refunded, and to watch The Goonies to see how much better movies were back in those days.

The finale of Lost sucked. This film was awful. Mr. abrams owes us a masterpiece, let's hope he delivers for Star Trek 2.
