Benedict Cumberbach joins the cast

But it's not for sure that Cumberbatch is going to play a villain. Neither Abrams nor anyone else has said that he will. He could be playing Sybok, for all we know.

Gah!

No! It's bad enough we got the 'share your pain' shitck the first time.

Cumberbatch could potentially be a believable "Villainous Vulcan" (and no -- not Sybok), or a villainous human, for that matter.

I have no idea what the plot of this film is, but one potential plot would be having the "Vulcans without a homeworld" situation be something similar to the Palestinian issue and their attempts at trying to procure a homeland. Of course, if the writers went in this direction, they would need to be much more vague on the issue, lest they look like they would be sympathizing with either the Palestinians or the Jews (and i REALLY doubt Abrams would be looking to openly sympathize with the Palestinians, but he can't villainize them, either).

Considering for a minute that this is a potential plotline, If Vulcans are now refugees -- people without a home -- I'm sure there would be some among them who would act more militantly in trying to procure a new homeland through any means necessary. Cumberbatch could play the militant Vulcan whose original good intentions for getting his people a homeland escalates too far into violence and (dare I say) 'terrorist' acts.

In order for Abrams to appease the real-world Muslims AND Jews, the plight of the Vulcans could be seen as a noble cause (they just want a place to live), but with a few Vulcans among them (perhaps a less-emotionally controlled sect) who get carried away and resort to violence in the name of this "noble cause".

As for Cumberbatch being a Klingon, I think he has too much of a unique look already to hide it behind Klingon makeup, that is assuming the Abrams-trek Klingons have some additional facial makeup.

It's better than the itinerant little trouble maker, the babysitter left behind on some planet, and forgot to check on...boohoo!

The reason he can't be Khan is becasue too many people want it which means JJ will not deliver it. Let me be wrong and let a new Khan story unfold in the cinema Summer, 2013.

I'm not all that familiar with Cumberbach, but he has an interesting look. Like he could easily play a gentleman or a psycho.
