The E-mail of mystery

T'Girl

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So I just got this Email ...

Hey, It's Caitlin Bennett.

Oh, of course you probably don't remember me. Whatever.

The point is that you are the only person who had that video,
where we are together and now it is on web!!!
Please, would you be so kind to remove it!! Thank you.

P.S. the video is in attachments in case if you don't understand what I am talking about.
.
The "from" was a Tracy Mago, the email address was shailendra91174. Now to the best of my knowledge I never made a "video" with this person and I'm not stupid enough to actually open the attachment. I assume it's a effort to upload a virus into my computer through the video.

Still I've never come across this particular tactic before, is this new?

Or, I've just never noticed.

:)

I have been getting A LOT of emails just like this the last couple weeks. I have no idea where they're coming from.

It's similar to a lot of types of emails that are out there. You go to the link and you'd probably get a virus, spam, trojan or something like that that would otherwise fuck your computer up.

^ The OP was referring to phishing.

Pharming is when hackers try to redirect traffic meant for a legitimate site to a fake site. They usually do this by hacking into routers and changing DNS settings.

If it’s anything to do with money, probably Nigeria.
Nope, they're the exact same emails as the OP, all to do with some video I made with some person. I've been getting at least two of these a day, and the name changes every time.

not one i know...

i get a ton of spam but haven't had that particular pleasure...

that'd be a worrying one for me as it would be possible that i had done a video with someone and not known their real name... but noone i know would send my anything via attachments, we all use dropbox for security

Yeah, it's just spam hoping to trick you into opening an attachment. Delete it and ignore it.

These are the right answers!
Stop yelling.

That wasn't yelling.

THIS IS YELLING!

:p

Exactly. If you get something like this again, DON'T open it, since it's most likely exactly what Trekker says here.

Trust me, I found this out the hard way.

Hilarious! Anybody who opens that attachment deserves a problem. Maybe not the can of worms they are opening, but at least a lesson in “How Not to be a Dumbass."

Yeah, considering the Internet has been around for 20 years or so now I'd think everyone by this point would know not to open stupid e-mails like that.
