I'm interested in selling photo prints and I need some help. I've started offering some prints on a website, but they're pretty much buried under the hundreds of other artists selling stuff on that site, and it has no in-site way of promoting your art. Does anybody know of a way to advertise art that is free or requires a minimal investment?
Are there any coffee shops in your area that sell art? You might see if one would be willing to put your stuff up.
This is a good idea. And not just coffee shops, either. Lots of businesses have wall space that they might consider letting you have. Corporate places like to change their wall art around and that could be a good opportunity for you. Also, what about having an exhibition in your town or area? In our town there are some empty shops due to the economic downturn, and the local camera club set up an exhibition in one of them (not sure about the fees charged for renting though, but I expect the local council, who are landlords of the shop would rather have it used than empty). Also, what about Deviant art (or is that the site you are talking about?) you can sell stuff from there.
This is a good idea. CafePress is where my store is hosted. Also, you should get your own URL and have it direct to the store, so you have something to put on business cards and flyers and in ads (if you can afford them-- that's always the problem).
Yeah, that's the site I was talking about. I didn't want to mention it by name and risk getting a warning for soliciting sales thinking it through more, though, it's not surprising that original photography doesn't sell well on a site where Naruto fan art frequently makes the front page.
I'm not sure what the costs are or how well you'd do, but you might want to look into Etsy. I've bought a few prints from there.
