Benedict Cumberbach joins the cast

Coincidence corner: Cumberbatch is of course best known for playing Sherlock Holmes. Leonard Nimoy has played the character on stage. Other Trek villains and guest stars who have essayed 221b Baker Street's most famous tenant include Christopher Plummer (TUC and Murder by Decree, Silver Change), Matt Frewer (TNG, who played Holmes in 4 telemovies), Frank Langella (DS9 and a 1981 Holmes tv movie)

David Warner (TFF, TUC, TNG's Chain of Command) played Arthur Conan Doyle in a movie about Houdini.

I hope they're not joking. I really want to see a skinny Harry Mudd and his band of Latino Klingons. We won't forget that film in hurry.

^ How about Nick Meyer and his connection to SH and ACD? And Kevin Bacon ;)

I did consider the Meyer thing but decided to stick to onscreen.

I could also have pointed out that Cumberbatch has played Stephen Hawking, who appeared on TNG as himself, well, a holographic version of himself. This has to be a first?

He won't be Khan, I hear Bradley Cooper has a small cameo as Khan near the end of the movie.

Curse you JJ! You're drawing me back with this casting. How am I supposed to be a proper hater when you do that?

He tasks me! He tasks me and I shall have him!

Variety is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch will actually be playing a character from the Harry Potter books, coincidentally also named Benedict Cumberbatch.

How come whenever young actors and actresses gain a modicum of fame they're automatically considered physically hot?
