I own only the first two, Alien and Aliens. I hope Prometheus is a winner because it would be welcome in my library alongside the other two.

The marketing campaign behind this film makes it appear as though Prometheus is going to be the next 2001: A Space Odyssey, but after how films like Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Avatar turned out, I am going to wait a moment after it hits theatres to see whether or not I want to fork over my cash to the studios to check out what all the mystery and the hoopla is all about.

I am sure Ridley Scott has crafted a film that is more worthy than the former 2 titles I just mentioned, but it has to be at least on par with the "awe" of the original Alien for me to want to go out to the theatres to check it out rather than deciding to stay home and wait a few months until fall to rent it in the comfort of my own home.

Take into account this isn't the only film my wife & I will be checking out all this year, because there is quite a few we want to checkout in the cinemas. Cumulatively, watching movies is costly, and those films worthy of spending money on to go all the way out to the theatres to watch will definitely be the ones on our slate.

And it's going to be quite a busy summer schedule during those initial months when The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises hit theatres. Throw in Prometheus in there, and that's at least 8 movie tickets my wife & I spend money on that summer not including other interesting films that may come out in the cinemas during that time that will take more cash out of our wallets. It's wise to be picky and choosy, because no Hollywood film studio has ever paid for our rent, mortgage, bills, insurance, maintenance, tuition, healthcare, travel expenses, and taxes.

Besides, summer blockbusters are a dime a dozen. If it turns out to be as good as it is reputed to be, no one needs to convince me. I'll go check it out myself.

I know what you mean. I'm kind of starting to wonder if the studios aren't possibly shooting themselves in the foot by holding all of the good movies until Christmas and summer. I know that over the past several decades it's pretty much become a tradition, but I really think at times they're too busy. When you have a limited budget and you suddenly find that there are 2 or 3 months where practically every week a movie you want to see is coming out, you really have to pick and choose alot more than if they were spread out more. I know there are a lot of movies I would have liked to see in theaters, but I decided to hold off because there were other movies I wanted to see coming out within the next couple weeks.

Besides, with all the Netflix streaming, on-line rentals, downloads, and our own library of ever expanding DVDs and Blu-rays...we are not really starving for visual media as a form of entertainment for us to have to run out to the theatres to watch every popular studio film released out there each month.

Seriously, I'm in my mid-30's and have established particular tastes by now. Nowadays, I ask myself if such-and-such new sci-fi, spy film, rom-com, comedy, or thriller is better than or actually worse than what came out a few years before. If what's on the slate is usually worse, I usually take a pass and go back to watching "the classics" like the way the latest disappointing Nintendo Wii games make us head back to our N64, Super NES, or even the old 8-bit NES for good old fashioned fun when fun actually was "FUN!" rather than another spin by corporate executives to wring every last dime out of our hard-earned savings...

If what's new is disappointing, simply don't watch them. Shit is shit, and no matter how hard you try, you can't transform shit into gold.

We've got plenty to hold us over for those rainy days.

Why am i suddenly concerned that if i criticise the film upon release you are going to try to shove an issue of Total Film down my throat?

No. no. no. if you criticise the film upon release you're not going to have an issue of Total Film shoved down your throat. Instead you will be kicked into the fan pit of death while someone yells THIS. IS. TREK BBS. at you which is way more fun, well for us not you seeing as you'll be in the death pit and all ;)

Um, I think he wasn't making a play on Ash's description of the xenomorph in Alien...

Indeed. Although worryingly some people have forgotten the magazine based retaliation that resulted the last time someone disagreed with a similar sentiment.

Wow, I just looked over the original screenplay for Alien for the first time, and my God was it wordy! Seemed like there was about three times as much dialogue in that thing before Ridley thankfully edited it down to something much more real and naturalistic.

I've finally seen production photos of the film and am impressed by the scope and its grand aesthetics.

I hope it lives up to its hype because the more and more I hear of this film, I am closer to deciding to want to check it out.

If the movie studios represent the Galactic Empire they know how easy it is to seduce us to their side of the force. :(

    Noomi Rapace. Excellent.

I didn't pay much attention to this film until the trailer came out, but I am definitely interested now. Among other things, it seems to have a really good cast.
