Myriad Universes

Does anyone know if there are any plans to do more Myriad Universes books or comics?

I liked the series and its always interesting to see alternate views of the Trek universe (beyond the Mirror Universe).

Nothing has been announced about one, but I don't think we've heard about any TPBs for next year yet, so there's a slight chance another MyrU could be one.

I doubt there are any firm plans for anything beyond what's already been announced at this point. The schedule is pretty much worked out a year at a time, and 2012 is essentially set; and my second- or third-hand understanding of the process is that the pitching/development season for 2013 is still a couple of months away.

(Although JD's probably right that we can't entirely rule out a further TPB announcement for 2012.)

I'd like to see the Myriad Universe book series continued to be published. I like this alternate story StarTrek anthology series. The latest book was one of the best Startrek novels I've read this year.:techman:

In the past have TPBs usually been announced at the same time as MMPBs?

Well, it's been a while since there's been a specific time for announcements. It used to be saved for a big announcement at Shore Leave, but these days it's pretty much project by project, announced by the authors upon approval. But I think TPBs operate on a different production schedule from MMPBs, or something.

Does this apply to the comics as well?

I was just curious if there had been any discussion of further MyU books? I figure that since these are anthologies and not stand alone novels, there might have been some preliminary discussion about the possibility of another series of stories. I figured that they might need to solicit story ideas before committing to another collection.

I was also curious if there was ever any discussion of doing any Myriad Universe stand alone novels or expanding one of the short stories into a full novel in the same way that "The Sorrows of Empire" got the full length treatment.

I've noticed that Mirror Universe stories keep coming, but its been awhile since we gotten anything under the MyU banner. I'd just hate to see this fun concept die out. Of course, DTI might make for a good forum for showcasing some of the alternate histories/timelines :techman:

I don't know firsthand, but I profoundly doubt it. The comics are published by a completely different company and on a completely different schedule. I see no reason why their project development process would be the same as Pocket's right down to the timing.

I suppose it would depend on how well volume 3 sold, but I have no information on that.

I pitched doing that with Places of Exile once, but it didn't get accepted.

Oh, and a point of clarification: There are no "short stories" in the Myriad Universes collections. Every installment is a short novel, in the 50-60,000-word range. That's about the length of a typical Bantam Trek novel from the '70s.

Mmm, could be...

IDW is currently doing a "Legion of Superheroes" crossover. Kinda counts as a "Myriad Universe" story.

Actually, so does IDW's other series, "Star Trek Ongoing", which is retelling TOS episodes, but altered, in the JJ movie timeline.

I fervently hope that the Myriad Universes series doesn't end with only three books in. I'll write stories myself if I have to, but its far too interesting a concept to just let it go. IMO, of course.
