2011 NFL Season - A New Game

As bitter-sweet as today is for Broncos fans, there is one thing I can gloat about regardless of how it came about......

So, gblews.... how did your team's very expensive "win now" strategy work out for you?

So great. Colts get the #1 pick in the draft, and they're probably going to use it on Andrew Luck. I don't know who all these fans are that want Andrew Luck so bad, but I'm not one of them. I do want Caldwell gone, though.

If Manning gets cut/traded, I'm buying some new jerseys. I don't even live in Indiana anymore.

If Manning gets traded, then the Colts will likely be sitting reasonably well. They ought to be able to get a few more pieces to shore up that aging defense, and build around Luck.

Wow, once again I'm a fan of a #1 seed who is likely going to get it's dick kicked sideways come divisional weekend.

Ugh.

Holy shit... Matt Flynn. Just saw those stats. HOLY SHIT, Matt Flynn.
Being a free agent must have really motivated him. I imagine he's going to get big bucks wherever he goes.

Fun game to watch- the way the Packers started the game (two botched kickoff returns including one that lead to a safety), I thought they were going to sleepwalk their way to getting blown out.

I can't help but wonder if the Vikings didn't take a dive. They're bad, but I didn't think they were bad enough to lose at home to a beat up Bears team. Should be an interesting off season for the Vikes- they're homeless (the team insists it's lease at the Metrodome is up), the team is in complete disarray and they have QB controversy looming.

They'll probably try to move to LA. They might as well send us the Twins and The Wild while they're at it, so we can complete our dynasty of stolen teams.

I'm not even a Lakers fan, frankly I hate them.

I'd rather have the Jaguars, to be honest.

Well, that didn't take long. Spagnuolo and Devaney are officially out in St. Louis.

I feel bad for Spags, as he seemed a decent guy. And there's the usual littany of excuses this year (the cornerback situation was like some bad comedy). Still, I suppose, you can't win 10 games in 3 years and expect to keep going.

I heard yesterday Jeff Fisher was going to get the head coaching job. He would not be my first choice.

Fisher really wants a job; my guess is that he'll go to Tampa Bay. Gruden has let it known that he's ready to go back to work, and I'd be shocked if the Rams don't interview him. Spags will land on his feet in Philadelphia -- he wasn't a terrible head coach, but he was a bit overmatched, I think. Not every great coordinator can manage a full staff -- see Norv Turner, Wade Phillips.

I'd take Gruden over Fisher.

Multiple sources are reporting that while Jim Caldwell has been fired, as expected, the Polians are out, too. Total housecleaning going on in Indianapolis.

Wooo! Breaking News, Polians gone. Caldwell still technically not fired, but he can't be far behind.

^That's a good thing for Indy. It really speaks very, very poorly of their GM's ability to build teams when a single player takes your team from a perenial 11+ win team to a 14 loss team.

You forget. This is the same GM that lost 4 straight Super Bowls with the Bills. I think THAT says a lot about him, too.

I say, if they REALLY REALLY REALLY want Andrew Luck instead of Peyton, cut Peyton and make him the new GM.

^Eh, I don't know how much of an indictment that is though... sure, you would definitely want to win at least one of those SB trips, if not more. But at the same time, how many teams can claim making two consecutive trips, much less 4?

^^ At least he got to 4 straight Super Bowls. That says something too.

Is it more or less crushing to get there & lose 4 times, or never even come close?

Edit: D'oh, beat me to it!

Tampa Bay's entire coaching staff, assistants and all, has been fired.
