Earth jumps the shark?

AntonyF

I dunno about you, but I'm not sure where this show is going.

The writers seem to be on a purge of main characters.

A few years ago they wrote out Saddam, then this year they've written about Bin Laden after a ten season arc. The arc started strong, went quiet, then they just ended that abruptly.

They had the short Libya arc then wrote out Gaddafi too.

Just when we wondered what they'd do next season, they wrote out Kim Jong-il.

I dunno.. I felt the writers had a road map, but after 2011 seasons I wonder if they have jumped the shark. What will they do in season 2012?

I think the Arab Spring arc needs resolving soon. it's been dragging on long enough. I hope they get rid of that Beschir al-Asad guy soon. It's way past time they wrote out Putin too.

I hope they start writing better stuff for British scenes, this so-called government they've got at the moment is a joke.

You know what story really needs to get wrapped up? The economic recession! They've been dragging it out for so long, and there has been very little payoff.

It'll be cancelled in 2012. Or so I'm told.

I think the network will announce that it's "on the bubble" and pull some sweeps stunts that'll bump up the ratings and it'll be renewed... at least for another year.

I hear a major focus of the 2012 season will be about a US Presidential election. Except it won't be a very interesting or exciting contest--I mean one of the candidates is just clearly nuts. The only way they sell that is if the lunatic wins, and I'm not sure how that can be written plausibly.

I don't even know where they're going with these political arcs; they're just not making sense anymore.

Maybe we should just all turn off the Earth for a while and see what happens.

Hopefully they don't use the tired old 'natural disaster' stunt again. They have been using variations of that plot line a lot over the last couple of years. If it keeps up, I might just have to see what I have DVR'd.

I honestly think they're just running out of ideas.

You've got a point there. Maybe its time for a shake up in the writing staff.

I must say, even though the plot lines over last few years have gotten harder and harder to believe, the production values have been fantastic. It's almost like you're living it.

I dunno about you, but I'm not sure where this show is going.

Francis Fukuyama claimed Earth jumped the shark back in 1992. Although he's more recently suggested that all that's needed is a fresh cast of more attractive people. Better that than a reboot, I suppose.

Personally, I'm hoping for a lot of standalone stories. Not every season needs a Big Bad.

True. The Big Bad angle has been going downhill since the mid 40s.

It'll be cancelled in 2012. Or so I'm told.

Aren't they commissioning an Earth 2 pilot?

The Earth network president said: "We want another Earth that fans talk about around the water cooler once again. Something edgy, modern and in tune with the YouTube direction. It's sure to capture the imagination of the public and be a show that fans from expect from us."

Better that than a reboot, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of a reboot either. They tried that 65 million years ago, and it took forever to catch back on.

EDIT for silly typo.

Maybe they should have a pod people arc. I am almost certain that any humans are pod people because they act so strange.
