What don't you like about Christmas?

Really? The whole thread?

Yes, I hate everything because I'm a whiny sonuvabitch. ;)

Even Brussels sprouts? :D
Especially Brussels sprouts.

Happy Holiday!

Ok, so my head hurts and I'm incredibly confused. As a service to anyone who jumps into this thread late, I will attempt to summarize the main points in order of occurance.

~Discussion of what everyone hates about Christmas.
~Why the saying "Happy Holidays" is evil.
~Why modern Christianity is evil.
~Why Republicans are evil.
~Everyone should embrace the values of older Christianity because the original Christians are the only folks to come up with the concept of, "Don't act like dicks to each other."
~Kestra hates black people.

Did I miss anything?

Oh, that's the other thing we learned. Tolerance isn't important as long as you say "Merry Christmas."

I thought Kestra only hated one black person, MLK. (point!)

The rest of them she tolerates the hell out of. She just believes they shouldn't have been emancipated.

I think. :shifty:

I don't know. I think she thinks less of me because I'm black.

Nah, despite Kestra's wicked ways she makes an exception for you. We all make exceptions for you, J. A lot of exceptions. ;)

There is one very big difference between Christmas and other holidays. Christmas is very visible publicly. Business and government spaces as well as private homes are often brightly and colourfully decorated. Practically everywhere you can hear Christmas oriented music. The other holidays...not so much.

I'm sure there are some who resent or dislike it. Some quite pious folks might have an issue with it. In times past there were some who quite objected to such apparent frivolity being even remotely connected with observing the day. Hell, way back there were some who really objected to December 25th being chosen as the day to observe Christ's birth, or any specific day for that matter.

For the sake of inclusiveness, have a Merry day off.

Unless you work at Walmart, Walgreens, a movie theater, or a restaurant. ;)
True. For those unfortunate folks I wish you the least stress possible in such a bitter situation.

The rest of us should be thankful because Christmas Day being a day off is actually a relatively recent thing, not much more than a hundred years or so for many places.

I think all these threads about the history and meaning of Christmas have caused more annoyance than any other aspect of Christmas.

I've got 2 New Year's resolutions:

1. Next year I'm going to start a "Consolidated - All things Christmas - Thread" and ask people to write their rants and novels in there. I'm looking at you Warped9. :p
I just need to remember to start it in June or so since this year we've had the first Christmas thread in... September?

2. I'm going to make 6 separate threads about the history and meaning of Labour Day and what it means to us left-wing folks. I can even do that at least twice a year. On 1st May for most of Europe and in September for our American friends.

Anyway, I've just put up my holiday tree and it's entirely possible that my cat's affection for that tree might just end up being the worst thing about Christmas.
