2011 NFL Season - A New Game

The Broncos knocked themselves out of the game in the second quarter. Going multiple possessions in a row without scoring would have made life difficult. Giving the Patriots the ball deep in Bronco territory was tantemount to suicide. I'm not shocked that they lost, but they way they lost was frustrating. Denver would have needed to keep up/ keep ahead to have a shot, and the game was over in the second quarter. Not to mention that in the second half, Denver's discipline was taken out behind the woodshed and left for dead. They couldn't tackle and they had way too many pivitol penalties. I hope Dawkins comes back next week- those two rookie safeties couldn't tackle a stationary dummy.

There's probably going to be a lot of talk about Denver not being real and this finally being the evidence. In my mind, I don't think this game proves anything other than the point that Denver's not good enough to knock off an elite team yet. Unfortunately, I think a lot more is going to be read into this game than there really is.

On the bright side, at least the Lions helped out and knocked the Raiders off, which helps Denver maintain their 1.5 game lead. Our schedule is pretty soft from here-on-out.

Well the loss today didn't hurt the Broncos that badly, they still control their own destiny with two very winnable games coming up against Buffalo and KC. Now once they get to the playoffs, . . . well that remains to be seen.

It's clear to me that this past week that alien replicants replaced the Kansas City Chiefs.

Booting Haley's worthless ass out the back door is probably the best thing this franchise has done in years.

On the front of Tebow, from last night's SNL:

No, it's just what you get when you get rid of a dumbass coach and get a QB that can actually execute a downfield passing game. Plus there was the emotional aspect of rallying around Romeo.

I think next week, they'll probably revert to form.

"That's not fucking holding!", hehe go Harvey Dahl.

Yeah that was 15 yards worth of entertainment.

The most life the Rams offense showed all day.

Actually, Clemens wasn't that bad. The Rams simply cannot score touchdowns.

I can't believe that CBS doesn't run a delay on the game. 5-7 seconds would have been enough.

Still pretty damn funny, though.

Well, I think there's possibility in Cernnel and QB Orton, the Chiefs mostly came together this week which is a bit impressive given the turmoil this team was in just a week ago and Cernnel only had a week to put a game-plan together and to find a QB he had faith in.

The Chiefs really impressed me this week, accept in two areas.

Getting so deep into the Red Zone som many times and not being able to pull-off a TD most of the time is pretty sad. But I guess still impressive for them to even see the end zone, and so quickly too. They did some great clock-management this week too... almost, there was a poor use of timeouts in the last half I feel. (one burned to prevent a Delay of Game penalty and another burned on a challenge) but they controlled the clock for the most part having the longest TOP. Penalties also stung this week too, another area for them to work on.

Romeo has my interest piqued, and if the can do this for two more games (and all of the other variables fall into place) then we may see the post season.

Saturday's game should be an interesting one, given what happened today I hope Cernnel continues to manage this team this well, get a tighter grip (what he did to Bowe, while harsh, shows he's got his own means of disciplining his team other than yelling.)

We went into this game with me fully expecting us to get shut-out. Not due to Cernnel's inability to coach but due to the turbulence of the past week and due to it being the freakin' Packers. This game ended up being a major upset on a nervous break-down levels of WTF.

Now? Now I'm a bit more hopeful of these guys, our stand-in coach and QB. (Hope to see both of them retain these jobs, too.)

Who knew there were swear words in football?

I'm sure America was shocked. SHOCKED!

Well like I said, it wasn't the loss itself that killed me, but rather the way they lost. I would have been fairly stunned and impressed if we had won, but the way they played was just ugly. Denver made it to (formerly) 8-5 through minimal mistakes and pretty consistent discipline. Today, both of those were gone. 3 rapid screw-ups dug us a major hole, and then the defense had issues. Now, I had zero expectations that our D would be able to stop Brady and company, but I expected them to at least make the Pats work for it. They could not tackle to save their lives. Chris Harris, our undrafted free agent CB was a tackling badass. Our highly-touted rookie safties obviously haven't been hanging out with Dawkins anywhere near as often as they should be. I sincerely hope tht today's issues were just a minor blip. Otherwise, they may be in trouble for the last two weeks. I'll take our usual struggles over today's set of struggles- we can overcome out normal issues.

As I alluded to above, that's got to be something to expect going forward. Orton can move you up and down the field, but the guy really doesn't like the redzone. He enjoys watching the fine art of field goal kicking. ;)

I Tebowed everytime they coughed up the ball in the first half today.

Nice game Hernandez. And awesome job on the Ochocinco sighting. I Ochotebowed after that.

Well, I dunno. Maybe if he gets more practice time in and more time on the field and in the Red Zone he'll get more confidence and be able to pull off some scoring. He had some good long passes and Play Actions today.

I was at that game today and the entire crowd just started laughing. One of the few bits of joy in the game, but that's another story.

We thought, surely, it was on tape delay. But then I came home and a quick twitter search told me I was wrong.

Yeah, no tape delay for sports games. I found this out a few weeks ago when FSU and Miami played and two F-bombs slipped onto the air.

Well today in the redzone, it was the piss poor run blocking of the Chiefs O-line that was the problem more than any shortcoming by Orton.

He is an odd looking chap, isn't he? He sort of looks like a slightly younger version of Napoleon Dynamyte's uncle Rico.

What's so sad is that Chiefs fans have been saddled with such shitty QB's since Trent Green's time, that Orton seemed like the second coming of Joe Montana today. I really haven't followed his career so I really don't know what he's like long term, but I do know that for today at least, he was head and shoulders above anything we've seen out of Casshole this year. Same O-line, same running backs, and same OC, and Orton easily outplayed him. Of course Haley was gone and I'm sure that was a big part of it too.
