You blew his face off (Spoilers!)

JonLuck Pickerd

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Is this a running joke between the writers of the Mirror Universe books? It seems from Damar wasting Dukat blowing the back of his head off and ripping his face away to Martok being stabbed in the head, there have been a litany of Mirror characters with their faces stabbed, shot burned mutilated that it's become a sick joke.

Not that I know of. I think it's just an example of how much darker and more violent the MU is compared to the Prime Universe.

:whistle:I thought that all of the MU was a running joke.
I probably would have been willing to agree with you there, until David Mack and the other current authors got ahold of it. I've been really amazed how well they turned what had been little more than a kinda goofy over the top concept into one of the best Trek series out there.

So assuming we're going for sheer bloody-mindedness, who would direct the MU feature films, then? Paul Verhoeven or Quentin Tarantino?

Why is it necessarily sick? It isn't like it went into long graphic detail. How many bad guys in PG 13 movies are killed by being shot in the head. Lincoln, Kennedy. Both assassinated via shot to the head. In the case of Dukat, what happens when someone is shot point blank in the back of the head is described realistically but not horrifically gorey.

I've seen more graphic detail in documentaries about the Kennedy assassination.

Sorry but I'm already way past gone wuth the MU.The peurile display of gratuitous sex and violence has never been my thing

Well, I would have agreed that that was what the MU was, but I really thought that they really brought a lot more depth and some quality storytelling to it when the brought it into the Novelverse.

Shooting people in the face isn't confined to the Mirror Universe. The last story of the first Mryiad Universes anthology where Kahn and the Augments won the Eugenics War had Dukat get shot in the face.

I'd go for Tarantino personally.

Absolutely. Quentin would eat the MU up--and frankly, I'd think he'd make it more "cool", if you will, than it already is. He'd certainly improve the dialogue!

To whit:

Mirror Bashir: There's nothing I loath more than a :censored:-:censored: traitor.

Mirror Ezri: (sighs) You gonna bark all day, little doggie...or you gonna bite?

Mirror Bashir: Oh, you want me to bite? I'll shove those :censored:-in' words down your :censored:-:censored: throat!
On second thought...

Still, it's funny--a Tarantino-style MU tale...I've actually had that idea for some time. In fact...

And...while we're on the subject--you have not experienced Tarantino...

...until you have seen his work in the original Klingon!

Bashir got pretty bloodthirty in the Typhon pact book with the Breen. GZood to see Trek moving away from the cartoon violence and more towards something a bit more realistic.

Though I'm for realism and the act of a head shot isn't appalling to me, I still think trek needs to not get too violent or graphic. Trek is a good vehicle for inspiring the young and hope it is kept as something young teenagers can read. No way I'd let my kids read modern comics, I'd like for them to be able to read trek, though.

There's TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY & Ent along with the movies if you want your kids to like Trek. There's also lots of books & comics.

I'd like to see Trek grow up. No more fights with nobody getting bloody. This is a thing the latest movie did quite well althoug a lot of it still fell into the cartoon violence arena. As McCoy said "Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence." It doesn't always have to be darkness but death should be sudden, frequent and violent not to mention permament. People just don't "get better" from being dead.
