Enterprise-J Request

found this on Dev art though id ask permission before using:

While a very nice drawing, his Ent-J is quite inaccurate.

I'm... Not sure how relevant/important screen accuracy is to a vessel created with a shoe string budget in a short time. It didn't receive nearly the immense amount of love and attention some other Enterprises received, so some wiggle room is neccesary to make it look polished.

The original J, while rather intriguing, looked an awful lot like a stretched out vinyl record with shiny lights on it.

I'd tend to agree with you. If it hadn't been called the Enterprise I don't know how many people would be as intrigued with it as there are currently.

I think we should be thankful it was only on screen for a few moments, it wasn't pretty.

It only really showed up as an LCARS-ish display, and a somewhat indecipherable one at that.

All the external images we've seen are from Drexler/SOTL. It wasn't onscreen any more than the Hermes, the Saladin, or the buttons named after cast members. ;)

^You must have missed that episode of Enterprise then. It was seen in flight.

Yes, when Archer and Daniels look out the window, you can clearly see the underside of the J's saucer, while other Starfleet ships are flying by. Unfortunately, it looks nothing like the underside of the saucer in Drexler's artwork.

The problem is that from Archer's and Daniels' perspective, in order to see underneath the saucer, they'd have to be much further below the ship. But according to DD's artwork, the saucer is the lowest portion of the ship. There's nowhere below the saucer in which they could have been to be seeing with that perspective.

There's also no sensor dome on DD's drawing.

^fans have speculated some bathosphere type observation pod was lowered allowing them to watch the events outside.

That is a stupid excuse, the distance below the plane of the ship means not only a very low carrying stardrive hull, but one that stretches quite far to the sides of the back of the saucer, which would look pretty damned weird.

I like Jay, she's an interesting ship, going by the Drew drawings of her anyway. But that future has been "set right" which means she probably doesn't even exist or as a drastically different ship.
