Perhaps Faith of the Heart Performed by a Woman

I like it as it was. Combined with the great visuals, the theme and Russell Watson's voice sets the right tone, in my opinion.

Russell Watson sounds a bit like Rod Stewart, and I love Rod Stewart, so that may be part of it for me, but the rendition is a good one.

I can see why they didn't (mega royalties?) but Stewart's version is superior. I'm not even a big fan, but there's something in his voice that makes it unique from everybody else.

And Russell Watson has his own legion of fans, who say that there is "something in his voice that makes it unique from everybody else".

I can't imagine Rod Stewart being superior to anyone. He was an amusing singer with The Faces, and plain embarrassing after that.

Russel's actually rather good...

The show's been off the air for almost 7 years, I don't think it matters now. ;)
That said, I'm on Season 3, and I'm not a big fan of the revamped intro. I like the first and second season intro because it conveys a sense of exploration and wonder, combined with humanity's courage in exploring the unknown. The Season 3 revamp just makes it sound all pop-ish. I mean, it's not bad, but I really like the original intro.
