Gary Larson

My favourite, probably because we had two dogs just like this:

dogfood.jpg

"Oh boy, it's dog food again!"

The one that made me laugh was a single frame picture
the caption beneath read something like

"And now as I cut the umbilical cord a new life begins"
the new born took off like a balloon
I cant find the compilation book it was in, and I lost it some years ago. just remember him saying it was stuff he had second thoughts of submitting.(until that galley book came out.
wish I could find it.
Never mind I found it

A Farside Classic that that Gary Larson admits he never even tried to submit for syndication as a 'Far Side' piece. a fantastic cartoon, As he says, in The Prehistory of the Far Side, this is much more effective if you imagine sound effects as well.

He should unretire! His pic of the bull sitting on the fence saying "lf it was electric could l do this?" was awesome!

"This is called the Thagomizer, after the late Thag Simmons"

Also liked the caveman scientists studying dirt (symbol, De)

I think the fact that paleontologists decided to actually name that part of a dinosaur the thagomizer is awesome. :)

That is fantastic. I wasn't surprised when reading your post, because etymologists actually named a species after Larson, but I didn't know that the Thagomizer was a named being used by paleontologists. That's great.

Here's the wikipedia article.

Just wanted a chance to post this.

In all fairness, there really isn't a lot of information out there on Google about his whereabouts, aside from some articles from a few years ago.

My favorite Far Side-related story was the "Jane Goodall Controversy." :rommie:
Oh, that made me laugh! Just shows how many people out there have rods up their butts, and who can be cool about such things. Goodall's attitude impressed me no end.

Oh! Another facourite: "Danook shows off hos Swiss Army rock" The cavemen expressions say it all!

At school, a friend of mine loved The Far Side. He had one of those desk calendars with a different tear-off cartoon each day and would stick each day's cartoon up on the wall in the common room. Over the years, most of a wall got filled, so all of us who used the room got pretty familiar with the comic.

I think they're funny. Not as consistently funny as a lot of people find them, but occasionally they really hit the mark.
