How life can change in a second. She walked back toward the plane to say thank you, perhaps, and wound up losing her hand and being injured in her face, etc.. it's a horrible tragedy.

I hope she is able to recover.

Ugh. That is horrible. The poor kid. :(

You're right. One little instant can change everything....

Poor girl. I hope she recovers and comes to term with her injuries.

A similar accident happened to Australian golfer, Jack Newton, back in th early 80s. At the height of his career he walked into a propellor and lost his arm, eye and had other severe injuries. It happened during a thunderstorm and that might have played a part in him not hearing the propellor. He ended up being a golf commentator and a reporter.

I feel really bad for her, and I hope she can retain her vision. I'm a little frustrated with all the emphasis placed on her looks and glamorous lifestyle. If I have to read about her working on the set of Gossip Girl one more time ...

I'm a little frustrated with all the emphasis placed on her looks and glamorous lifestyle..

It's as though it is considered a worse thing to happen because she had good looks to destroy. While if an ugly person gets their face chopped off, well, it could have been worse.

Fucked up :wtf:

Private aircraft at my airport have been told to keep the engine and propeller off when embarking or deplaning passengers to keep this very incident from happening..even if you plan to taxi it back to the hanger, that engine and propeller must be stopped until all passengers are well away from the aircraft.

Props to her for being a trooper through all of this.

You owe me a new, non-coffee stained monitor :guffaw:
I think s/he was sincere, but his wording was a bit --- odd

The pun was intended, I just couldn't resist.

As much as I feel for her injuries and hope she recovers.... I t seems a bit foolish to run into the moving prop. In the video the reporter says the prop is "hard to see" when it's moving when the prop is clearly visible with the colored tip whirling about there.

But, still, it's sad she was so tragically injured out of a momentary lapse of judgment and awareness.

As I said, the pun I made was intended but I sincerely hope she makes a recovery, doesn't lose her eye and pulls through the tragedy. It was a genuine accident out of a lapse of attention that could happen to anyone.

Always treat the propeller with respect.

Even when it's off, you treat it as if it could start at any moment. When it's on, you stay the hell away from the front of the plane.

Same rule applies to jet engines, really.

Well, that and it's hard to make a case for the injured woman not seeing the propellers when you can clearly see the propellers!

I mean, I understand one probably wouldn't see them in a momentary lapse of judgment it's easy to over look even very obvious things when you ARE paying attention, but that little stunt hardly is making the case for her.

One thing I do wonder, though. Is that the same type of plane she was injured with? If so I believe on that plane the door is over the wing so in order to get to the propeller you'd either have to walk around the wink or exit the plane and climb off the wing on the wrong side. (IIRC there's a little foot-ramp/tread thing on running down the backside of the wing. To get around the door you'd have to walk around the door, across the wing, and then climb off the wing on the slippery, all metal, surface.)

It was dark... she might not have seen them.

you know what they could do... have a beeping go off while the props are in motion.. kind of like how forklift trucks in warehouses make a beeping noise whenever they go into reverse.

I think that would be a bit difficult to hear over the sound of the propeller itself!

And really, over a page and a half and nobody's made an Indiana Jones reference?
