You know, the name isn't familiar, but that face sure rings a bell! Solarbaby took a case of mistaken identity to new lengths with the November TrekArt challenge: to design a ship which appeared at first glance to be a Federation starship, based on its geometry, but is in fact a previously-unknown alien design (the design - the aliens may have been previously known and, well, just hiding this one for a rainy day ). No help from Janes Guide to Starships on this one - only a closer inspection will do, and our Intrepid observers (those Vulcans - so methodical and thorough!) have presented their evidence of new and subversive ship designs attempting to cross our galaxy unchallenged. Not this time. This is the challenge! And your challenge is to select one crafty designer to come out the other side of the gauntlet. Cast your vote now, before these ships get away! ============= B.J. Klaus KNH
I went with Klaus because at least he re-thought the functions of the parts relative to the whole ship rather than just taking a Connie layout and changing the appearance.
Yes that what I thought. They were all excellent entries. It was really hard to choose this time. I started about 3 different designs but kept coming to a brick wall and ran out of time. Here's a couple of http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=5386629#post5386629
Klaus got my vote, for the previously-stated reason that he attempted to create unique functions within the same general geometry. I really liked the artistry of all 3 entries, but thought this one stretched the concept further in the right direction .
Nicely done, B.J.! (I'm sure we'll see someone modeling that in 3D any day now ... ). Congratulations!
