favourite and least favourite doctor?.

Favorite: 4th. Tom Baker. You always love your first Doctor. ;)
Least Favorite: 6th. Colin Baker. Just couldn't get attached to him, but in fairness, I also didn't get to see many episodes with him, either.

Favorite - Hard to decide - I rather like Matt Smith's portrayal of the 2nd Doctor

Least Favorite - Colin Baker - he's better on audio

Fave: Eleven (which is v hypocritical of me cos I always complain about the incumbent winning these kinds of polls) though Five is 'my' Doctor and I love Two as well.

Least: Colin.

That said Doctors are much like Bonds, I don't think there's truly been a terrible one...

Whilst at times he isn't perfect, and he's far from my favourite, when he's good I think he's very good. You can tell the panto actor is dying to get out sometimes!

the seventh doctor is my favorite

he was the one I got introduced to DW by. I love the question marks, the umbrella, and just the character in general

the first doctor is my least favorite

Favorite: Always Tom Baker. of the new series, Tennant I guess. But I love all three.
Least: well I've only seen two episodes of him, but Colin Baker

I've actually thought about it long before this thread was created, and I really honestly don't have a least favorite Doctor. As far as favorite Doctors go, that's also hard to say because there are aspects of different Doctors that I like equally.

So, it seems like if there were a poll, the Sixth Doctor would be running away with the "least favorite" question. My question is, did Colin Baker choose to play him as such an ass or was that just the way that Doctor was written?

I think the Sixth Doctor was written that way. But I personally don't find Colin that good an actor. A stronger actor could have made him more sympathetic, despite his abrasiveness. Nine got away with comments like 'Mickey the idiot' thanks in part to Eccleston's power as an actor and ability to show decency and good qualities under the caustic remarks, IMHO.

You're probably right. I don't remember having the same kind of problem with Nine (in fact, I like him best of the modern batch), but i do recall being utterly repulsed by Six. He just irked me.

I think that the long-term plan was to smooth out some of his rougher edges-he's already mellowed out somewhat by "Revelation."

plus, he gets some great lines, some of the best ones ever, ones that I can think of just of the top of my head, like

"in my time I have been threatened by experts. I don't rate you highly at all."

"the TARDIS, like myself, is capable of many amazing things when functioning properly."

and his mocking of the Valeyard in "TOTL."

yeah, he can be a jerk, but he can be funny too.

I can't blame Colin Baker for the sixth Doctor's unlikability, I thought he mellowed some in the Trial Of A Time Lord season. And Baker wasn't very vocal about his Doctor's character.

Q: Do you think the plans to make the Doctor a less likeable character might have been a mistake? And do you feel that during the hiatus, you were very vocal and you were ousted because of that?
CB: To be honest, I wasn’t that vocal, it’s one of those things that’s been perpetuated by fan magazines. I didn’t really speak out, maybe I should have done. Actually, I was quite careful not to criticise anyone for the simple reason that I didn’t want to be hampered with the baggage from that, so I don’t think that’s a reason. I think it’s more casual than that, I don’t think any attitude towards me caused any of the decisions anyhow. I don’t think they were aware of my existence!
I thought it was quite exciting to have a character who was a little inaccessible, a little enigmatic. I don’t know if you have this experience in your life, but I have it in mine, the people who are my best friends are the ones I didn’t like much at first. Some of them I loathed at first. There’s a book called ‘Pride and Prejudice’, I don’t know if you’ve read it, there’s a character in that called Mr. Darcy who for the first two thirds everyone thinks is the villain, they think he’s a deeply selfish swine because he doesn’t go around wearing his virtues on his sleeve. And I think those characters are very interesting, and I wanted to play the Doctor like that.

Anyway to answer the question the fourth Doctor is my favorite and the 11th my least favorite.

Favorite: The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston)

Least Favorite: The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker)

Favorite, for a long time it was a tie between Baker and Pertwee, but found some episodes of Hartnel's on Youtube, he would certainly make a 3 way tie of it and I might prefer him over all as the Doctor over the other two if I had to really chose. Baker was just enormously charismatic in the part and Pertwee brought wonderful panache as well as being given the delightful foil of Delgado's Master. However, Hartnel played such a wonderfully multifaceted Doctor who could go from caring to crotchety to slyly dangerous from moment to moment. My least favorite was Colin Baker, the actor was fine but the material just made him unlikeable all to often.

The only way you can really like the 6th doctor is if you listen to his audio dramas on Big Finish which are mostly quite good and he's much more likeable. But the 6th doctor on TV just isn't likeable at all. It's cringing to watch it. And I don't think this was really Colin Baker's fault. He was just badly written. Listen to his audio drama's for Big Finish and you get a much better feel for him.

It's tough to pick my favorite all of them are really likeable outside of C.Bakers. But I'ld have to go with Tom Baker or David Tennant(4th and 10th. I think Tennant did the best job of blending in some of the past doctors yet also owning the character so well.

If you include the audios my least favorite doctor is the 8th doctor.

I had no problems liking the Sixth Doctor on TV. I thought he was a nice departure from the very mild-mannered (if not sometimes subdued) Fifth Doctor. I also liked that he was a very physical Doctor and played up the fact that he was an alien.

Yea, he even told Peri that 5 was far too agreeable, and not the "Real Doctor", which is certainly true, 5 was far more agreeable than anyone before him. To be fair though, although 5 was such a teddy bear from the outside, he really was one of the more dangerous Doctors, which many people don't seem to realize.
