Can You Name What Not to Get Your Girlfriend for Christmas?

Speaking of gift cards... I just got a gift card to Olive Garden for $25. It had only $4 on it. We had to pay for rest of the bill. *sigh*

I checked online and the only activity the card had was the dinner last night.

I don't do holiday gifts in general, I'm more random with my gift giving. Although, sometimes my random gift giving coincides with holiday times. A few weeks ago one of the girls I am close to was in one of her moods, so I made some chainmail stuff and sent it with a handwritten note to show that I care about her and was thinking of her. That was a good idea. A few days ago, I ordered a copy of The Ethical Slut for another girl. It was probably a good idea, but this could end badly. She should get it on Monday, so I'll know then.

So....someone gave you a card, saying it 25 bucks on it, but it only had 4? Not nice.

My suggestion would be to run out right now, and purchase some fresh sushi and her favorite type of soft, smelly cheese. Wrap them up and put them in her stocking. 3 weeks from today, she'll be impressed you got her something so thoughtful and tasty.

Odds are 3:2 you get a holiday hummer out of the deal.

Power tools.

I don't know about that. I know a woman who was thrilled many years ago when someone gave her a Makita power screwdriver for Christmas.

Mind you, she's a bigwig in the local amateur theatre community, where anyone with half an inclination to do so can help with building sets between rehearsals, so for her it was not only something useful, it was something she'd actually wanted.

As for appliances, I gave my mother one of those George Foreman sandwich grills a few years ago. She uses it all the time. (I'm not sure that's what's meant in this context by "appliances", mind you - I half suspect that what was meant were things like an oven or a washing machine, which I agree would send the wrong message.)
