Has Anyone Read Q-Squared?

I read this a while ago and it's a bit confusing. But I'm wondering has anyone else here read it. The one thing I liked was It had the 'Squire Of Gothos'(TOS) and Q(TNG). The 3 tracks are confusing but if you pay close attention you can get it. The story although takes place in the next generation even though it has Trelane. So lets get posting wooo;)

Oh, yeah it's a very popular book around here, so it shouldn't be long before more people pop in here. I finally read it about a year ago and I loved it, although it did take me a little while to get a good understanding of which track was which.

Love that book! I read it as a young kid, and I've since read it about four more times. One of my favorite all-time Trek novels!

It's one of the five greatest Trek books of all time.

I finished it all in a few hours, I just couldn't put it down.

it's a little comic book-esque in style(somewhat like "vendetta") but this was Peter David at his best

a true classic

I've read Q-squared a few months ago. It's one of Peter David's best TNG novels.

I thought it was AMAZING when I was 13. I should read it again to see if it holds up.

Yeah it is one of my top five all time favourite Trek books...and one of the first that I ever read. I think my favourite quote is Worf's Winnie the Pooh line. That had me laughing for a good ten minutes straight.

I have read it and although it's enjoyable, it's not one of my favourites. I like the alternative universes element to the story but the "plot hole finder" within me cannot accept Trelane as a member of the Q Continuum. As a result of that, I found it hard to fully immerse myself in the story, but I will say that Peter David captures the essence of Q perfectly!

Although the revelation at the very end kinda breaks this (not to mention the episode "The Q and the Grey"), I suspected the "Q Continuum" was actually an alliance of godlike beings rather than a single, identical, species. Thus Trelane can be a member, yet have marginally different abilities to Q.

I loved "Q-Squared". Very over-the-top. We finally meet Jack Crusher (or a Jack Crusher), and learn he's not quite as stable as the hologram from "Family" suggested. Nice.

Plus, I'm a sucker for time travel and alternate histories. I loved the Old Riker bits of "Imzadi", but found the Troi/Riker stuff puerile.

I'm probably going to regret saying this but, around 80% of the romantic elements in Star Trek novels don't appeal to me. There's just something off about a lot of them, it's not bad writing though, I'd say it's more to do with really getting into the other stuff one one chapter and then there being this anti-climax with the novel's romantic subplot on the next chapter.

Although I consider the Destiny novels to be among the best that I've read, the romantic stuff with the likes of Melora bored me to tears. I'd say that's more because I just cannot stand the character and I'll promise to buy the next Titan novel (and start reading the series) if the author kills her off!

I did find one thing EXTREMELY unlikely:

out of an infinite number of universes, with the attendant infinite number of Jack Crushers...there is literally only ONE who survives? Is that even possible? I think Trelane was just bullshitting him.

Just curious - what is it about Melora that bothers you so much ?

The only negative response I've had to Melora was the slow-moving "Gemworld" novel duology, but that was the storyline, not the character. I like the actress and her feisty character. Loved how a character originally intended to be a series regular was recycled for a guest appearance.

In every timeline he would eventually die anyway. I didn't find it hard to believe he was simply a hard luck case in pretty much every timeline and died fairly young.
