Black Friday off to a Great Start!

Chemical weapons are now being deployed as shopping aids, apparently...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "A woman shot pepper spray to keep shoppers from merchandise she wanted during a Black Friday sale, and 20 people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:20 p.m. Thursday in a crowded Los Angeles-area Walmart as shoppers hungry for deals were let inside the store."

This is the best line of the story:

The store remained open and those not affected by the pepper spray continued shopping.

Well, thank God for that! The March of Commerce must go on unimpeded.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with some people?

This is why I stay home in my jammies and shop the interweb if I need something. There is no way any of this artificially created nonsense is worth my time.

If you're out there today, stay safe! Pepper spray is not just for UC Davis students anymore.

Oy!

A few years ago some shopper's pepper-spray broke or something and got into the air-handling system at work. The store was evacuated, and police, firemen and ambulance workers were all called in to handle things and triage everyone in the store to ensure everyone was okay. The store was shut down for the better part of an hour.

Pepper Spray in the atmosphere of your building is not something you want to dick around with.

But this is Wal Mart. On Black Friday. I think Jesus could return and people would keep shopping.

It's madness.

Hell, Jesus would be all: "What, you want me to enlighten you and bring you to eternal peace and love? Fuck that, I've got to get me that $20 Blu-Ray player, out of my way bitches!"

Even though he should really be investing in hair care products at this point, 2000 years without a haircut is not cool.

Besides, even if Jesus did keep to character I don't think the "love your neighbour" bit would go down well while shoppers are pounding the crap out of each other to snag whatever this year's equivalent of Cabbage Patch Dolls is. Remember this sheer lunacy?

I hasten to add that I never owned one of these butt-ugly things. ;)

"When a daughter wants one, what's a a mother to do?"

Ummmm. Tell the kid no? Tell the kid the store was out? Tell the kid Santa's elves couldn't make any more due to a contractual agreement with the original manufacturer?

Watching that video is really disgusting, I think there were similar panics and rushes over the following items in my lifetime: Furby, Tickle-Me Elmo, the Nintendo Wii.

It's amazing what people can be manipulated into doing. Hell, Black Friday doesn't even wait until Friday anymore.

Camping outside a store to shop. It boggles the mind.

This is why I support Festivus!

It's harmless. It's just a food substance.

It's so sad... how many of these people are trying to buy affection?

What I wonder is...what is their time worth? Spending six hours of hell to save $100 (for example)...works out to $16 an hour. I can do my entire Christmas shop online from the comfort of my own home in about 30 minutes. Everything is brought right to my front door, and I don't have to talk to anyone or even get dressed.

The mother of fools is always pregnant.

Nice.

It's actually not "harmless" at all.

There's a reason why it burns you when you eat it, because you're not supposed to eat it! In high enough doses it can cause severe irritation. Most notably it can cause airways to narrow and even close off, for people with lung problems due to either illness or age this can, obviously, be very dangerous and deadly.

Not to mention the possibility of allergic reactions and just plain irritation and annoyance.

It's not "harmless" it can, and does, cause problems. Capsicum in it's purest form -what pepper spray uses- can land you in the hospital.

He's quoting one of the Fox News talking heads, Megyn Kelly, who tried to claim that the pepper spray incident at UC Davis was no big deal. “it’s like a derivative of real pepper. It’s a food product essentially.”

And in other news, Mustard Gas is essentially a condiment.

Megyn Kelly is an idiot.

Apple cores have cyanide in them, so I guess cyanide is essentially harmless. I mean it's basically apples, right?

She's paid to report a confirmation bias. We all know that. What matters for the ratings are the old men who ogle her and believe that the world went to Hell long ago.

It's still irresponsible of her to mis-represent facts and truth.

To boil down pepper spray as to being essentially a harmless food-item is absurd.

This is why I do all my Black Friday shopping online. I picked up all four seasons of Mad Men on Blu-Ray yesterday for $36. All without getting pepper-sprayed!

It is, Trekker, but again, she's paid to report it that way now. If she reported anything other than, "the neo-hippies got what they deserved and they're crying over nothing" or "making this up," they are convinced Fox is getting too liberal.
