DC Universe Online goes free to play!

Thats true, all the good bird names have been taken. I settled with Red Caracara for my Batman memtored hero. Im on the PS3 US server.

Yeah, I think I ended up calling my villain WhiteWraith (coz she has white hair...) pretty naff, but then who's going to care?

I've played this a bit more and I still don't really get it - I'm upto level 25 and I thought that the point of those sorts of games was that you had to think carefully about skills, what weapons you buy and that sort of thing? So far, all I've done is randomly buy equipment that is more green than red, then gone where I've been told and mashed some buttons until the other guy falls over.

I keep thinking I'm missing something obvious and there must be more to it?

So, if the level cap is 30, it must not take all that long to reach it... I just started a character (Shadowscourge, US PC server) about an hour or so ago and I'm already up to level 5.

Also, didn't see this mentioned yesterday...

Lightning Strike, DLC pack #2, has been announced, focused on The Flash, Central City, and Electricity powers.

Curse you, Bruno Mannheim!! :censored:

Seriously, what the frak is wrong with this guy? He pretty much oneshots me, which is something not even Sinestro managed to do so far. And Sinestro is actually a well known character...

Just got off after playing about a couple hours with Owain Taggart, we had a lot of fun. Is there any way to actually do missions together?

I think so I was able to do one on the stop the scarecrow missions where you smash fans and beat up henchmen with another person, but that was one of the out in the open ones.

Well, that was fun. Hope we can do that again soon, JD :)

Yeah, I couldn't see an obvious way to share missions other than the instanced ones. It was a bit confusing due to how cumbersome it is, but once we got going, it was a lot of fun. Even managed to take some screenshots, but I'm not sure how I can upload them from my PS3.

One thing I noticed today is, no more queues! I got in right away, which surprised the heck out of me.

So far really loving it. Hearing Kevin Conroy as Batman giving me missions is just a dream come true. Really love being a brooding vigilante in Gotham. The name's Batsbane and if you're a villain I will kick your ass!

Well, here's me and JD from yesterday's session:

You know part of what I like about this game is that in a week, those two characters could look totally different. For instance: -
MinervaSandsmark.jpg

On the left is what my hero looked like a week ago and on the right is her look as of the last few days. My villain on the hand still looks like this.
WhiteWraith.jpg

I'd be playing right now but it looks like the EU server is down.

Yeah, exactly. I kind of see it as the evolution of a superhero :) Your character looks pretty badass btw.

Btw JD, I've been doing a number of missions which only have the instances left. I'm level 10 now, and I'll be caught up soon if you want to finish these up together next week. I've got Raven to rescue, and the HIVE base, and I'll likely be ready to do the Bane mission by then.

I'm considering deleting my villain and starting a new character. Acrobatics is fun over short distances but it makes long distance travel a bloody nightmare! Not just because it takes forever but it's bloody dangerous too. I cant go two city blocks without stumbling into some mass brawl or another and teleporting only gets you so far.

I think I'll try a Joker mentored speedster this time. What do you lot think of the weapon choices? I've already tried staff and bow and I don't fancy any of the gun based options, but I'd still like something ranged. Hand blasters maybe?

Have you tried climbing the buildings and glading between them?

^Yeah, but as I said, it takes forever! Plus of course if you try to climb up to escape a fight you accidentally stumbled on, all it takes is one stray shot and you're knocked back down again and have to fight it out. Good thing I wasn't on PvP or I'd be toast.

Yeah, I agree. I'm kind of thinking of doing that as well and going with a martial arts character who flies. Maybe it will be my villain. Acrobatics aren't that great.

My hero is currently at level 7 and is using the Acrobatics movement; I definitely have to agree that it isn't ideal for moving around the city, even after climbing up buildings and gliding between them. I haven't tried any of the other movement types yet, though, so I can't offer an informed opinion on Flight versus Super Speed. From observing other players, however, Super Speed seems to run the same risk as Acrobatics insofar as stay shots slowing you down when running past enemies.

He's also using Martial Arts for combat style, though I had intended it to be Staff. After I realized the error, I didn't feel like deleting the character and starting over. At some point down the road, I think I'll use my second free slot on a villain and use one of the ranged options.
