The entire book really builds up to this giant climatic confrontation.

The author pretty much chickened out when she didn't have a big fight at the end of BD. She admitted that she didn't want to kill any of Bella's new family. Even many fans that read the books were disappointed.

But the screenplay writer has made changes when she thought it would make a better movie. They already put in the sex scene in Part 1 when it was skipped in the book. A big battle will be put into the Breaking Dawn Part 2 movie. Having the last movie end without a big fight would be terrible and hurt how much money the movie makes.

He's described his own stuff exactly the same way. Pointing out that even a good writer sometimes produces shit isn't disparagement, per se, it's simple truth.

As well he should, as that too is truth, plain and simple. Patterson's a brand name that's kept alive solely by the talents of others.

There's lots of humor. It's just not intentional.

Unlike everyone else in the thread I think there's plenty of room for bad vampire romance movies. No need to go transform them into bad vampire action movies. We have lots of those already.

I saw the first Twilight film and thought it had an interesting and different look and tone than most Hollywood movies. I haven't seen the later ones, but I understand they've been handled more conventionally.

Unfortunately, all of the vampire romances are crowding out the time traveling viking navy seal romances.

Personally I wish authors/game developers/script writers just left zombies, vampires and werewolves alone. Not only are they overdone, but for the most part they're some of the most boring monsters around.



Heck, Incubi are ripe for a romance novel for women, far more so then vampires. You could have an incubus who loves the main character, but is distraught due to his power over women. Meanwhile the main female character is confused about her feelings, does she really love him or does she simply feel intense lust brought on by his power and why would he settle for her when he can have any woman he wants.

I'm by no means defending the series, but I find it odd how I hear more about Twilight from people who claim to hate it than it's fans or official marketting machine.

Not to take this too far into TNZ territory, but the whole thing kinda reminds me of how virulently anti-gay politicians and religious officials are always caught with their pants around their ankles with an underaged member of the same sex.

This Twilight thing would have faded into obscurity by now if not for it's critics.

I don't mind critics at all. They help me in two ways. I know what I like in movies so if they praise what I like then the chances are I will like the movie. If they are negative toward what I like then the chances are I will like the movie even if they don't!

I think it's more like a lot of people don't get that they're not the intended audience, which is primarily teenage girls, or resent that there's actually a successful genre franchise out there that isn't targeted at, say, teenage boys or adult fans.

I tried to read the first book, but couldn't finish it. But that's cool. I'm obviously not whom the book was written for, nor is there any reason why I should have expected to be. Not every book needs to appeal to us jaded older fans, even if there are vampires and werewolves involved.

Why shouldn't there be a mushy vampire romance series for teenage girls? The way I see it, they're perfectly entitled to enjoy their own kind of vampire story. And it's not like it's going to give the rest of us cooties or something.

Again, I'm not a big Twilight fan myself, but a lot of the Twilight-bashing seems akin to bashing a Disney cartoon for not being gritty or hard-edged enough.

Not really that odd. Twilight fans will most likely congregate at twilight fansites/forums/facebook pages, rather then sites that are more generalised.

I don't think the problem is that it's a romance series, rather how it's written. I have no opinion on the book or the movie, not having seen it, but what's been said about it gets my hackles up as a feminist.

Plus some of the sentences posted make a Gor novel look like it's well written... Actually forget that, nothing could make a Gor novel look well written. Even badly written fanfiction is of higher quality then a Gor novel. [/sidetracked]

I do still however think vampires, werewolves and zombies need a rest. They were a tired out concept by the time of the 21st century.

If you use Gargoyles as a measuring stick, a lot of Disney cartoons aren't gritty or hard-edged enough.
