Sadie Miller (Lis Sladen's daughter) on BBC Breakfast

Sadie Miller, Lis Sladen's daughter, was on BBC Breakfast last week promoting her mom's autobiography which came out yesterday. It's a very nice interview and we learn a few interesting tidbits, like the fact Lis was diagnosed with her cancer in late February (so much for the idea the split season was due to her condition), and Sadie wears a necklace given to Lis by Katy Manning when Lis joined Doctor Who.

And let's get the ball rolling - I think Sadie (an up-and-coming actress fresh out of drama school) needs to be cast as the next companion. What do you think?

Oh, pretty girl. How sad to lose her mum. I think it's poignant how she goes to Youtube to look at videos of her mum.

Sadie wears a necklace given to Lis by Katy Manning when Lis joined Doctor Who.

Katy mentions it in her Lis' DWM tribute issue. It was only last year when they worked together.

There's an interview with pretty much everyone who knew her in the magazine, including her family.

It wasn't cancer directly that killed her, it was side effects of the treatment. When she went in the hospice it was to manage it. Until the last few days they thought she'd be coming home.

The last time I saw Lis I asked her what Sadie was up to; she had a rather good role with her mum in the Sarah Jane Smith series for Big Finish before the TV show bought her back. Right now she was in Lis' flat in Cardiff she laughed! She was working in a legal practice whilst she was studying. She thanked me for asking the question, she was proud of her daughter's acting too.

Trouble is though it would almost be nepotism, casting her in the show purely because of her mum. Rather than as an actress in her own right. Obviously Georgia didn't have to audition for the Doctor's Daughter, but she at least had notable TV credits to her name; I think she had auditioned for parts (maybe even Rose?) in the show before.

Hey Russell, if you're listening, can't Sarah Jane get zapped by something or have something that will make her look young and thereby continuing SJA? If Sadie can act, of course.

If I were Sadie, taking over the role that my mum made famous would not only creep me out, but also give me enormous pressure trying to live up to the expectation.

I'll say!

I've never understood this obsession some people have for the children of Who stars to be in Who, and in particular to play the character their mother/father made famous. I don't have anything against them starring per se, but they should at least play new characters. I still think Sean Pertwee would make a good Doctor, and one very different from his Dad, but I wouldn't want to see him pretending to be his dad. That'd just be weird.

Nepotism to give her a starring role, perhaps. But I see no reason why she can't guest star in an episode. Aside from Georgia Moffet, we've also had Patrick Troughton's son David has had three roles in Doctor Who. So I don't think having a famous parent involved with Doctor Who should prevent someone from guest starring.

That said, I agree it would be stupid to have her as a younger/rejuvenated Sarah Jane. And I feel the same way about Sean Pertwee playing the Third Doctor. Which, thankfully, he said he won't do.

For some it would be creepy, for some it would be cathartic.

:wtf:

O.. K...

I wouldn't use the word cathartic, but I get what Photoman15 is saying. Were my dad an actor, I'd have been happy to carry on in his shoes with his most famous role. It's a chance to make a connection with one's parent; an opportunity that doesn't come along often after they've died.

My dad's legacy, however, is somewhat more modest, but I'd be proud to carry it anyway.

Not the same character as her mum, but I'd go for Sadie either guest starring or acting as a companion. And she doesn't need to be Sarah Jane's long-lost daughter or any nonsense like that.

My bad on the necklace - I posted it a couple hours after I watched the clip, so my short term memory burped.

But some people want him to play the 12th doctor, not the third.

I'm aware of that, and would have no objections if he were cast as a future Doctor.

However, people have also said Sean Pertwee should fill in for the Third Doctor in the 50th anniversary like Richard Hurndall in The Five Doctors, an idea which has even come up in interviews. That I would be against, and as it turns out, so is he.

Do you even know if she's a good actress?
