Could you eat INSECTS?!

I'm sure we can breed some big fat juicy bugs that taste like fritos. Stirfry with some veggies and siriacha and I'm game.

I think I could possibly work up to it, I mean I didn't mind the escargot I had--- granted they were bathed in pesto sauce.

Beats starving i guess.

This reminds me of the army horror stories my dad likes to tell.. he was in a recon unit and they got taught survival skills. Amongst them how to properly bite off/rip off a chicken's head to drink its blood and replenish salts you'd lose in the field. He said after a while you got used to it and when the time comes and you are forced to do it getting over it becomes easy.
Holy shit. I guess those guys really are trained to eat things that’d make a billygoat puke.

I'd rather eat insects than starve. But I'd prefer them cooked. As a kid I used to eat mosquitos that I'd slapped to death after they'd sucked my blood. They tasted like... blood. :p I'm far enough north that malaria isn't a problem.

Am I the only one who got a little hungry looking at the bowlsful of tube grubs/worms in "Conspiracy(TNG)"? :p I know it sounds a little gross, but they always reminded me of a type of brown rice or pasta. Didn't think of the little buggers as worms.

No. Just no. Not only no, but hell no. Not only hell no, but HELL no. Not only HELL no, but a Will Smith style "Aw, HELL naw!".

This.

Perhaps if munching on some bugs ment the difference between life and death, but that's about it.

Q2

Toasted mealworms would probably be fine. I used to eat red ants as a kid, they were kind of tangy, but that's as close as I've come. Any bugs cooked a bit would probably be good I expect, but raw? No thanks unless it was that or starvation.

Seasoned and cooked just right, I think I could scarf down a bowlful of mealworms. They look a helluva lot more appetizing than most other bugs and vermin.

Well, you can get them freeze-dried from the pet shop as feed for wild birds so report back okay?

Our science centre likes showing that you can eat insects as they've had events focused on it several times. There's an exhibit on the 2nd floor of example dishes. Doesn't particularly look appealing to me.

Tempting. But I think I'll wait, thank you very much. I'll just stick with my Cheetos and pizza. :techman:

I have, but I would only eat cooked ones. I've tried fried crickets before. They were rather crispy like any other fried food and had a certain aroma, but I didn't care for the texture at all.

I could, as long as they were cooked and their beady little eyes weren't looking at me.

We probably eat and drink pounds of processed bugs every year anyway in the form of cochineal extract and carmine (bugs used as food coloring ingredients that for years were hidden under "artificial colors" or "color added" in most drinks and packaged foods). The US Food and Drug Administration doesn't require companies to inform consumers that some food ingredients are derived from bugs.

Yum...

Slimy yet satisfying...

This reminds me of a recent episode of QI. Stephen Fry tried a chocolate covered ant and it made him feel really ill

If I needed to I would but can't say I'm particularly fond of the idea, they just don't look that tasty.

Here's something I never thought I'd say: I agree with J here. :shifty: :D

Really?? With all the disagreeable, mean spirited, contentious motherfuckers we have on this board, the person you can't find any common ground with is J. Allen?

The guy's general fucking agreeability personified for christ's sake.

No offence J. ;)
