A few years ago I posted a photo of the proposed Menzies Center in Hobart to get your opinions and got varied responses. This is the building I was asking about back then

That building was completed a couple of years ago

Now the architectects have released the photos of what stage 2 of the Menzies Research Institute will look like. They have stated that they are going for a biological, honeycomb affect.

So folks what do you think? Ugly? Crazy? Wonderful? Interesting?

Not sure how I feel about the first one, but I think the second one is gorgeous.

I think they're fine, as long as I don't fall down while trying to walk past it.

I like them each individually, but together they look very awkward. I also think it would make more sense if these were art museums.

I'm with RoJoHen on this. IMO, buildings should look as though they belong together in an organic way. While I think the second building is definitely an interesting design, it's too extreme next to the first one, despite the fact that the first one has an interesting and unique design itself.

I also think that from a distance, the building looks like something out of a 1960s dystopian SF film, like Logan's Run or some such. It looks like it's falling apart.

I can see what the architects were going for, but I don't think they've achieved it.

I'm iffy on the first one; the second one might work if it was a Modern Art museum. Otherwise, I'm not really feeling it. And they look absolutely HORRIBLE right next to each other. YEECK.

Just goes to show you can teach someone a skill, but talent is innate. And the architects in this case had none of the latter.

The second one remains me of something from "Life After Man" i.e. a building that has been taken over by vines. It seem very organic. I actually quite like it but I agree that it doesn't go with the buildings around it. it would look great if it was more isolated.

Kindda reminds of that historical dramma "The Legend of Suriyothai"...who would have thought such a beatiful place where a lot of stuff is made from gold existed long ago... I think it's fabulous amongst the building! I think that's the charm. I think they serve as an inspiration.

It got me thinking...how ancient Rome must have looked with all its glory and splendor!

If the second building suffered massive damage in an earthquake, how could anyone tell?

Frankly, I think both buildings look like jokes. The surfaces are just trying way, WAY too hard to be different for the sake of being different.

That might be a good thing. The Menzies Centre houses both the Research Institute and the Medical School. It probably wise that medical students know what vaginas look like.
