Would you call Sylar slicing open brains PG? I don't know, I think they could 'get away' with a more graphic, moody style. They need to make a decision as to what genre they want to explore.

Competently made, but felt too much like one of those generic Syfy monster-of-the-week shows. Hard as it tried, there was just nothing ever creepy or frightening about any of it.

The only cool moments were when we'd see the scary monster faces, but that's just not enough to make me want to come back.

Compared with American Horror Story and Dexter, yeah. Or Sons of Anarchy which just did a funny gag (in both senses of the word) involving
a severed head of a murder victim bobbing in a vat of chili.

Cable routinely shows a lot rougher stuff than Heroes ever dared to. There's a definite limit to what broadcast will throw at us.

Law and Order, CSI, Bones, and Body of Proof to name a few show rougher stuff than Heroes ever showed. All broadcast network shows.

Maybe it is the way in which Heroes did it then, it just seemed more viscerally involving than Grimm, and much of that probably had to do with Quinto's portrayal.

That Sons of Anarchy sounds like a fun show indeed!

Just checked it out this morning and i liked it. Though hope there is more meat to the story than just Grimms go after weird monsters.

Though as a first epiode of new series, was kind of weak and i can see people not getting hooked.

The lead Grimm was kind of bland though. But still is a fresh face which is a big plus for me. Would of liked Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis in that part though.

I turned it off after 10 minutes. I usually never do that. Weak leads, very little intrigue for me, and it looks like crap. I can do without it, I probably have too many shows to watch as it is.

That is pretty harsh Richard. :( I liked the pilot...hope you will at least watch the second ep. ;)
I think it's back to Supernatural for me. Aside from aiming to watch less TV, I had the same problem others mentioned. It felt too generic/formulaic, like your typical homicide detective show.

As for the ratings... Looks like it's in cancellation territory with 6.5 million viewers.

:wtf:
The series premiere of Grimm surprised to the upside, notching a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. Grimm's half hours were a 2.1 and a 2.2. That was the best non-sports Friday rating on any network since 12/31/10 (New Year's Rockin' Eve)

As I posted earlier in the tread...unless the ratings drop like a rock for the second and third eps...I am not sure why you would think that.

First episode didn't turn me off to the point where I won't give it another try. The lead actor is, as others have pointed out, bland. He is the typical hunky, "handsome" male lead the networks, and SYFY, always dig up, presumably, to attract the ladies. Rather see as good an actor as they can find who maybe doesn't have "the look". In fact, the actor who played the reformed werewolf would have been better in the lead role.

I'll DVR the next episode so as not to miss Fringe's initial airing, but Grimm is on a short leash.

I liked this pilot better then "Once Upon A Time". I liked the lighting and the moodiness of it. Not impressed by the male lead although he is easy on the eyes. I'm hoping he'll get better once as the series goes along. I like his partner too. Not sure about the dying Aunt so much or his girlfriend. I really like the one Blubotten or however you spell it. I can see him adding some humor to the show.

I'm hoping NBC will give this a chance instead of pulling the plug on shows after a few episodes. We'll see how the next episodes go.

I doubt that would make it to an "R" rating. (Not that I watch procedurals since they bore me.) R ratings are for cable.

Grimm could be significantly more violent and still be within the PG scope that broadcast goes for. But expecting R-rated cable stuff is pointless. The FCC would squash it flat.

It is, and it's having its best season yet!

Would of liked Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis in that part though.
Joe Flanigan is probably around 50 by now and therefore too old now to be a lead on a series, especially dumb old broadcast, but yeah, he would have been MUCH better!

Yeah, that's what they're going for. But a more charismatic actor would be much sexier, even if he's a bit worse for wear. :p

Oh no, he's way too fugly. A weatherbeaten Shep would be pushing things as it is. Sigh.

Unless the ratings tank, it should be safe. NBC is still in desperate straits and nothing does very well on Fridays anymore. NBC scheduled it for Friday because they didn't think it would garner a huge audience. They've got to be happy with how well it did.

Hey, now, watch that calling Flanigan 50. He's 3 years younger than me, and I'm only 47. No need to age me before my time :p

Fifty is the age at which we reach our mental and physical prime. Until next year. :mallory:

I'm not sure what an R rating has to do with anything. I was just illustrating the point that they could go a lot higher with the gore factor and still be perfectly acceptable on broadcast TV.

I watched Grimm today. It was not spectacular, but pretty well written and cast. It could turn out to be a nice MOTW show. I was particularly impressed with how they captured a suburban folklore feel with the graphics and set pieces and color saturation; I loved all those moss-covered trees.

That discussion started by someone wondering if the show would go for an R rating (it's up there somewhere) and that's just not going to happen on broadcast.

I actually caught the pilot tonight on SyFy. I probably wouldn't watch it 'live' every week, but definitely if SyFy shows a repeat viewing I will try and catch it.
I thought it was pretty good. I didn't have high expectations though. :P
