Comparing the regular Borg to Lore's Rogue Borg

The Overlord

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
In a certain way, aren't Lore's Borg more dangerous then the regular Borg, because they have ranged weapons and take cover when being shot at? It might have been interesting if the Borg collection found a way to re assimilate these Borg drones and started incorporating some of their tactics. Borg drones should at least be outfitted with stun phasers, so they can knock out targets at a distance and then assimilate them later.

To be honest there's no reason why the regular Borg have to be so slow moving and cumbersome. If assimilation is intended to enhance the abilities that are already there, it seems a little counter-productive that being assimilated seems to have such a detrimental affect on a person's agility.

Agility is irrelevant. A stick will be assimilated up your rectum. Resistance is futile.

As a production design choice though, their clunky/slow-moving nature really chimes nicely with the assimilation ability to emphasise the zombie-esque vibe they have.

With the amount of technology they have taken through countless assimilation they could've quite easily designed rapid shock troops for quicker planet take overs. But the slow speed makes them more eerie and dangerous. The Borg are the nearest thing to the horror creatures in Trek, they make zombies look like kids at halloween:borg:

Except many horror movies nowadays have those fast moving zombies and something moving fast is more dangerous then something moving slow.

The Borg should at least create some elite security drones, designed to take out intruders right away, before they cause problems. There should some Borg who are willing to attack on sight.

One thing I wondered, was why Lore's Borg didn't have adaptive powers anymore. Phaser shots killed them (though the FX used made it seem like their armor deflected the energy somewhat) all without any adaptation.

Otherwise, yeah his Borg were more effective at combat than regular Borg.

The main reason being that if the Regular Borg fought like that, they'd be even more overpowered than they already were.

I think the Borg can only adapt when they are part of the collective, the Borg are stronger when part of the collective, take a drone out and that drone becomes weaker. The adaption comes from the fact the group consciousness can analyze an attack that felled one drone and counter it with the next drone. Drones outside of the collective do not have that ability.

Nearer than the Remans? I don't think so.
The Borg are scary (in part) because they're relentless and growing, per Picard's little "we fall back" speech. The Remans are clowns and failures. Their one shot at power and they backed the wrong horse (Shinzon), their lives were likely worst after the events of Nemesis than before.

As horror creatures go, it extremely hard to take the Remans seriously.

:)

The thing about the borg was that in an attempt to keep making them scary after we had beaten them a few times they were watered down. Even the borg would have been more scary if they had figured out a way to make the borg slow and relentless.

They are pretty agile when in close proximity of a hostile target, just check out the intial battle in FC! I suppose that rushing into a conflict is inefficient and since the Borg are arrogant enough to assume that assimilation is inevitable, they see no reason to waste energy until they are in range of their target.

Well, normal Borg have the adaptive shields for the Drones. So there's little point in being agile and running if the enemy's weapons won't hurt you.

Its also more efficient to deal with intruders before they cause problems. If intruders are allowed to walk around a Borg cube until they start blowing stuff up, that is very inefficient. Is always more efficient to deal with small problems before they become bigger problems. If intruders are allowed to blow things up before someone tries to stop them, then even if the intruders are defeated, drones will have to spend time repairing the damage they did.

It be more logical if the collective issued a directive, that any non Borg found on a Borg should be assimilated or at least subdued right away, rather then just ignoring them.
