Well, it looks like Universal finally got around to it.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced - at long last! - that Sliders - Season 5 is coming to DVD. The most recent release was in 2008, and fans have waited (im)patiently since then for the final season of the show to come home. It will finally slide into stores on January 17th, a 4-disc set priced at $34.98 SRP. Video is 1.33:1 full frame, audio is English stereo, and English subtitles are on board as well. Here's a fuzzy look at the package art for this highly anticipated title.

Now the question should now be "Will anyone actually buy it?"

I'm a completist, so yes. Of course, I'll also need to buy season four. I've also never seen Java Jive, which actually sounds like one of the more interesting (and more season one-esque) plots from the season five episodes.

And I hate to get off-topic, but does anyone know why in Neflix streaming's season one selections, Eggheads and The Weaker Sex are not available?

"The Weaker Sex" was taken off Hulu for awhile too. I've never been given a straight answer to why, but the best guess I've seen is that music rights for Rembrandt's street performances caused the problem. "Eggheads" doesn't really have that music problem, but it did have a billboard featuring a reverse version of the Nike swoosh.

Some broadcasters have become very skittish about airing trademarked logos (watch for all the blurred clothing logos when Cartoon Network shows old eps of Robot Chicken), so I would guess that the swoosh may be the culprit on "Eggheads". Of course, the immediate question is why doesn't Netflix just blur the logo if it scares them; but I doubt Netflix has the authority to censor or edit content that they license. As for Universal leaving an unaltered "Eggheads" on Hulu, I feel confident that Universal just doesn't care about what might happen. In my experience, Universal doesn't go very much for preventative measures; Nike would have to go after Universal before they would blur that out or remove it.

Well, now I know to get the first four seasons next time I can afford 'em...I've been puttin' it off 'til the whole series was available.

Now, if they'd just release the third season of SeaQuest...

I have seasons 1 and 2 I got for cheap, the box set is horrible and huge. Did they ever fix that?

For me Sliders started to go downhill around S3, what made it even worse was killing of the Profosser. Getting rid of Quinn was yet another nail in it's coffin.

Sorry, Season 5 of Sliders is not Sliders. Only one member of the original cast, stupid Cro-Mag arc. Even Season 4 is barely Sliders. Quinn not from this Earth. Please! They bastardized the whole idea. No wonder Tracy left the show disgusted.

I will. I have the other seasons, even though my most favorite remains season one.

My real question is that now that they are finishing SLIDERS, when is Universal gonna release the final season of SEAQUEST?

ETA: Damn, I see some of you guys beast me to that question.

Oh well.

Season 5 wasn't as good as season 1 or season 4, but it wasn't remotely as bad as the back half of season 3. Seriously, making people watch the latter half of season 3 should be classified as a crime against humanity. Season 5 was actually a lot of fun. Yes, the cast was almost completely changed by that point, but the S5 cast had great chemistry, the best since the original foursome. Even when the stories fell flat, it was still fun to watch the actors doing their stuff.

Good. Now I know it'll probably be a collection of each season set but will Amazon or Deep Discount offer a cool incentive price point to get all 5 seasons together? I'm way more into getting the whole series at a time of late.

Then Universal needs to complete SeaQuest, especially since I've got one season to go on Farscape and it's the same showrunner on both. I only watched sporatic episodes of SQ back in the day but for a good price would pick it up.

SeaQuest on bluray would be a treat, with new VFX.

^

Check your local Wal-Mart. Last time I was at mine, they had the seasons one/two, three & four for only $20 each.

^ I think Odo meant Sliders is about $20 a season. I got Sliders season 1 and 2 for $17 years ago. There is only like 20 episodes out of order in one of the worst cases I have ever seen.

However season 2 of Sliders I bought for my grandma for $8.55 on Amazon about two weeks ago.

And I just checked. Seaquest season 2 is $9 now on Amazon USA. Season 1 and 2 of Sliders is $22, season 3 is only $10, season 4 is $15.

And I agree with the show was fully dead after they made Quin an "alien" from a different Earth. That was just simply stupid.

Nothing was as stupid as the back half of season 3. FOX put the show in the hands of incompetent writer-producers who thought that science fiction meant ripping off old B-movie plots and that character interaction meant constant petty bickering. Whatever conceptual changes they made in season 4, at least they put the show back in the hands of people who actually knew how to write and knew what science fiction was -- people like Bill Dial, Chris Black, and Marc Scott Zicree. They brought the show back from the dead, made it bearable to watch again. They even gave Maggie Beckett a personality for the first time. It was maybe the one time in Kari Wuhrer's career that she was given meaty enough scripts to let her show that she was actually a good actress.
