First Tin Tin review online

So, you started a thread about a movie you haven't liked since you first heard about it, and you're taking the opportunity to expound upon why you don't like it in ever more detail, despite having not seen it, and indicating you apparently have no intention of seeing it, so you can just go on disliking it for no real reason?

Cool, carry on then.

Oh stop it. The point of a message board is to talk about upcoming films. Otherwise they might as well take down the Avengers thread. Or the Man of Steel thread.

Yeah, except the people participating in those threads tend to be interested in the final product, and you aren't. You just want to complain about a movie you're not even going to see. It's bullshit.

And hey, if you're allowed to gripe about a movie you dislike sight unseen, then I'm allowed to call you out for it. :)
:)
Normally I might agree with you.
Normally i might say you have a good point.
In all seriousness, you are right, i won't see the film.

But, I am commenting on the latest work from two filmmakers i do like. I am also commenting on trends in filmmaking that I am despising more and more (3-D, CGI animation, and mo-cap animation) But more importantly, as i said above, I should want to see this film. I like pulpy, sci-fi-esq films. I like the Phantom, and Sky Captain, and other stuff that, with any good sense, i should ridicule just as much, if not more. I guess I'm making comment that even bad schlock has lost it's magic.

Just to be clear: you are commenting on GENRE trends.

And how do you know it's "bad" schlock until you see it?

I already hate this movie. I hate it so much that I plan on seeing it on opening night in Imax 3D if possible, followed by one to five more screenings at various theaters (including second run). I will then rent it from Redbox to make sure that I hate it, and then buy the special edition Blu-Ray to remind myself of how much I hate this movie.

Then perhaps you should limit your comments to this, rather than filmmaking at large and "every" movie... as you have been doing.

Why? These boards not only discuss films, but trends in filmmaking.. so I've decided to demonstrate what I think are trends in filmmaking. why should I restrict such comments? It's not like I'm forcing you to read them.

Well, now you're not making any sense. I try and clarify that you are talking about GENRE film regarding your complaints, then you say you're ONLY commenting on this film, to which I suggest talk only about THIS film, and NOW, you're back to saying you're talking about trends in FILMMAKING.

When in reality, you're talking about trends in GENRE filmmaking. Not ALL of filmmaking. Not EVERY movie. But GENRE. Action, superhero, adventure, horror, etc. And STUDIO films at that.

I'm trying to help you clarify and focus what you are talking about. It might make you sound less hyperbolic.

Look, people can read my comments for themselves, and they can determine whether I'm talking about Tintin, the adventure genre in general, animation in general, and so forth. Screw the idea that i have to tell you what I'm talking about form minute to minute

Dude, I'm just reading your words.

As you say, this is a discussion board.... isn't the point? To TELL us what you are talking about?

You say EVERY film, I think it to mean you mean EVERY film. Which isn't true. Now, if you say every GENRE film seems to be aiming to be slick, with CG, then, yeah, I might agree. But when you start using words that have a finite meaning... like "every" then... you should be called out, that either your being hyperbolic OR you ACTUALLY mean EVERY movie... which isn't true.

Ok when I find an Ebert review that says something along the lines of

'This paragraph I'm talking about the film I'm currently reviewing"

"however the next three sentences I'll be talking about the genre'

The last paragraph I'm talking about trends..."

No he doesn't write reviews like that. he gives the reader a bit more credit.

Screw that

Again... I'm just saying your comments are about trends in genre films. As most dramas don't use slick CG. As most comedies don't use slick CG.

This pretty much leaves genre films. Which, YES, the trend IS to have a lot of slick CG. Not EVERY film. Just genre.

I don't even understand why you're fighting with me about this. I'm just clarifying (and AGREEING) with what you are suggesting: that genre films have a tendency to use slick CG.

I'm sorry.
I had a lousy night. A lot of personal drama here and I feel completely alone. I wanted to come on here and just express my feelings as to this movie and my problems with my favorite genre. I admit I'm a bit touchy aout it tonight. My apologies.

No worries. But maybe the internet isn't the best place to VENT. Especially if you're looking for to not feel alone. Most people don't approach the venter...

I am reading your comments and have no frakking clue what you're on about. Just don't see the bloody movie, and let the rest of us anticipate\enjoy it.

word.

I don't consider them great films nor do I watch them often.. but I think I like the bravado spirit with which they are made, - the filmmakers truly understand that this is pulp stuff and they use that. The Rocketeer is often praised for the same reasons. I was brief in my comment about it so as to make the case that the kind of film that Tintin seems to be trying to be isn't something that I would necessarily dismiss out of hand because of its pulpy origins.

I love Tintin, but he barely changes at all throughout the whole book series, which could definitely be problematic in a full-length movie. I remain highly, highly dubious about this.

PREQUEL HATING. It's pretty much like that.
